I'll be blunt. People who enjoy tank me up maps are inferior people. The world would be a better place without them in it.

They are popular only with a small but vocal minority that are so bad at UT that they detract from game play across the board and in effect make the server less fun to play on... driving others away.

Actually... I'm a traditionalist in maps for the most part, because I don't play that much anymore and I'd prefer to enjoy the few games I do get in rather than take chances.
