Project: Map Change
Posted: Sun Oct 01, 2006 3:07 pm
The goal of this project is not to make masterpiece maps. The goal is to make potential maps more playable for 32p.
We are not going to get permission from the authors to modify these maps. We have no intentions of re-releasing them to the general public under its own or any other name, taking credit for them, or in any way shape or form changing who was originally responsible for them. It will be for our server use only (unless of course someone grabs it out of the cache.) So I'm not anticipating any problems. If you should even encounter someone claiming to be the author of a modified map, please direct them to me.
In the interest of preventing maps from becoming forever beta, we will have two release candidates, and a final. Here's how we'll work it.
I will post a listing of all the potential maps, and what initially got them rejected.
Mappers will chose one map at a time that they think they would like to work on and start a thread to discuss it.
We'll discuss it for a few days and come up with 3 or four of the MAJOR issues. That will be what gets fixed in the first release candidate. When the changes are made to address those issues, the map will be released as ONS-MAP-RC1.
We will promote it to the server, where the admins will force it once or twice for a few days to get feedback. Once feedback has been received, that feedback will be incorporated into the original map discussion thread where changes will be decided for release candidate 2. These changes will be done, and the mp will be released as ONS-Map-RC2. Again, admins will force it once in a while, and get feedback.
If the map is satisfctory as is, it will simply be renamed to ONS-Map-32p. If further changes are required, those changes will be made here and the map will be released as final. Only under extreme circumstances will we pull a map back after final relese (exploit, locker or vehicle imbalance, bug). In which case that situation will be fixed and it will be released as ONS-Map-32p2.
I hope this will help keep things organized and give us the ability to move things along without the maps becoming moving targets for months on end. People don't want to play maps they have beta tested for 6 months.
Resources (Mappers, tweakers, all round geniuses):
WailofSuicide
zeus
Wraith
Hornet
Alpha
Urtho
If anyone has questions or suggestions, please feel free to let me know.
