Cool . Go for it WW. The big projects around here can't seem to keep anyone busy on a regular basis. Constant looking for work for the commercial guys around here it seems like. The union in this state is a joke and we've had an influx of people in the feild with not enough work since the olympics got over. It's starting to get better I think . Weeding some of the wanna be's out.
Service man myself anymore. I do it all. Literally in the electrical world I am very well versed across the board. Pretty stable work at the shop I'm with now. Lots of drive time and get to meet all the crazy's out there.
May go into buisness one day for myself. Not right now . Don't really want the headache of it all . Besides that will definately cut into your Ut time . :cyclops:
Ya just tickles my ass. Less than 1 amp will kill you if it hits ya right. People don't understand the power. I've seen some good fire balls in my day. From 20 amp circuits spitting fire. To the 2000 amp switch gear we tripped out once. Talk about a fire ball. But then again people get hit but lightning and live . It's all the roll of the dice on if you live or die at that point.

Hey do you guys work on the poles? I saw a discovery special about the history of linemen and apparently 1 in 4 died from the job way back when. My hats off to you if that's what you do, it's still one of the most ballzy jobs on this planet!!!
Myself, digital electronics only, when it gets analog I throw my hands in the air and say I know nothing. I don't mention that I did quite a bit in school. School taught me that if it's not invisible, I can't say "It's just a radio signal, it's not my fault it blew up 10 centimeters away".

Nope not a line-man. Doesn't sound like WW is either. Those guys can get into some bad situations in a hurry. They are in reality pretty safety conscious anymore. You have to be when dealing with that much power.
The guy my hats off to is the one that gets to fly on the helicopter to be lowerd down and attached to those high high voltage linse out in the country before the main substaitions. They work those things live wearing some sort of body mesh made of metal I think. The whole thing is crazy. But shutting down the lines is economically unfeasible.
In reality it just doesn't take alot to kill you. Everytime you get shocked you just rolled the dice with your life.Lots of variables though.

When inspecting the PPL power line grid, the lineman must "bond off" which is shown through the arc jumping out to the helicopter platform, from the film Straight Up! Helicopters in Action.
