For those who like debates

UT3 should be coming soon with a new gametype, improved vehicles, and MORE PLAYERS! Death Warrant will be there with hardware to spare!

The foliage screen shots of UEngine 3 look like crap in comparison, and wth is speed tree anyway? The foliage in general for cry engine looks great in comparison. The character models are pretty unpar with each other, it's just a matter of who wants to spend more time producing content for just about everything.

For cry engine the only thing I do not like is the lighting in general. For example the hallway scene on that page just doesn't look right. Also if you look at the shed, the aluminum panels look very badly lit to me. Maybe it's a mapping issue. Also whoever made that grass, and placed it in the scene needs to be killed.

Well I have to say they both look great and both have their own little flaws.

I think from the pics shown both seem to be slightly lacking in the environment compaired to the characters. But isnt that to be expected ???

Id say that the UT engine just wins but by 0.5%... if that !

Reading the comments on digg, the general consensus was that for indoor stuff, the UT engine seemed better, but for outdoor stuff, the crysis engine was better.

However, I think it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges...

- To me, looks like CryEngine2 Is owning big time UnrealEngine3 - However wich one will be more efficiently playable for the average system that's another story ..

Both engines look fantastic. Thing is, it's hard to say what the engine's capable of just from existing assets. CryEngine is really good with tropical environments, which all of its art and assets are designed for, but what about other stuff? I'm not a big fan of the giant chunky characters UT3 is going for, but that's pretty much completely unrelated to what the engine can actually do.

I know it was/is used to great effect for Oblivion to give the trees and forests in that game their hyper-realistic look. Anyone who's played it on maxed out detail/draw distance will agree I'm sure.

Both the engines look very impressive to my eye. I'm leaning toward the current consensus of thought that U3 wins the indoor types of looks with the Cryengine taking the exterior and more natural environments but they are both very close. Looks like it'll be a nice time to upgrade my system in the next 3-6 month time frame with these types of sweet looking games coming out.
