So Snaggle and Wraith, are you guys going to write your own mod to create invasion? Or will you be working with someone else from the invasion community as part of a team?
Presumably, invasion is not included as a default gametype.

I'm actually hoping that, since the singleplayer portion of UT3 is supposed to be much stronger, that we will get some Unreal/UT1 style control over enemies. I doubt there'll be any models specifically created for enemies in an Invasion-style game, but we'll have at least Krall, Necris, and Robot player models that (in my opinion) should work pretty well for NPC enemies (assuming we can run with a lot of them onscreen at once -- if not, there's always stuff to port from 2004).
Stronger AI control could mean we see a gametype more like Monsterhunt from UT99 -- Fight monsters, but instead of just running around static DM levels, progress through singleplayer-style levels. It's a lot more fun, in my opinion, than straight up invasion.
In any case, once UT3 comes around I expect a lot of new development will begin immediately. If we're vocal enough and garner enough support, we should be able to direct some of that energy into something like RPG/Invasion if we want to.

I remember Monsterhunt from UT99... good times playing that gametype, you could have 16 bot teammates and just tear up the place in a progressive map that you had to kill through and beat, instead of the static DM maps you refer to.WailofSuicide wrote:I'm actually hoping that, since the singleplayer portion of UT3 is supposed to be much stronger, that we will get some Unreal/UT1 style control over enemies. Don't suppose anyone remembers the "Tally-HO!" mutator from UT99 as well?

UT99 Monster Hunt was fun, but very different. Instead of DM maps you'd play on large sequential maps without any rounds. For mappers it was a chance to try new and weird textures and funky lighting since most players don't seem to care too much about the looks.
I actually brought a UT99 monster hunting and CTF pug match friend of mine to the Monster Hunt server last night while it was playing DM-TheEnd and he laughed at the extraordinary amount of spam. He seemed to enjoy Onslaught, so maybe he'll become an ONS player.
I enjoy the UT 2004 Invasion version and the RPG aspects make it a little more interesting. I hope modders work on both styles for UT3.
I've never heard of the TallyHo mutator.

It was actually eerily similar to the Invasion gametype in UT2003/04. If I remember correctly, it randomly spawned monsters around you for the entire length of the match. No waves, no chances to take a breather, BUT you could respawn. Other players also proved to be a nuisance as they COULD kill you if the mood took 'em. This was referred to bullying, and you'd have all your weapons confiscated if you killed someone, even by mistake! Kill someone 3 times, and you became a llama! As a llama, you couldn't see where you were going but were free to kill others at will. The "llama mode" wore off after someone killed you and got HUGE points for doing so.WHIPperSNAPper wrote:I've never heard of the TallyHo mutator.
Also, at random times, "bonus targets" would spawn on the map that were either big fat targets you could leech lots of experience off of (the glorious "Golden Cow") or INSANELY powerful targets that made mince-meat out of you if you couldn't take 'em down fast enough (a giant warlord... with 'deemers!). In the last minute of the match, scoring was doubled (Double Jeopardy!) and it was either a make or break for someone lower down on the score board.
Other than those differences, the rest was much like Invasion. I really liked the whole randomness of Tally-Ho! though... You're in the middle of hunting down stuff, and all of a sudden, an announcement blares signifying that "Xan Jr. has spawned! Shoot him for extra points!!" and Xan Jr. would yell out in his squeaky voice "I am the Alpha and the Omega!", which always cracked me up. If you have the original UT (1999) and you're interested in giving it a try, click on the link below. Wouldn't mind trying it myself and take a trip down old memory lane!
Tally Ho!
Please remember that this mutator is for the original Unreal Tournament, so if ya don't have it, then you'll just have to stick with Invasion.

That sounds like a fun mod, especially the part about the Llamas. Might be a fun mod for UT 2004's Invasion, too.
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if those who made Tally-Ho! had a hand in the making of Invasion. At first glance, you'd think they had nothing in common. Play a little longer, and they're so similar, it's scary...
Perhaps sooner or later we should get a thread going about ideas for UT3 Invasion? Heh, give us a chance to throw our ideas into a pile and see what people think of it! :cyclopsani:

ur middle statement, the monster hunt thing. i gotta say that that was one of the most fun mods in UT99. its basically like assault but with monsters as defenders.WailofSuicide wrote:I'm actually hoping that, since the singleplayer portion of UT3 is supposed to be much stronger, that we will get some Unreal/UT1 style control over enemies. but in my opinion, if its gonna be RPG, i think it'd be better to stick with the old run-&-hide game style that were playing right now. because itll be way hard to lvl up with a monster hunt game style, itll be hard to find enough monsters to kill and lvl up from.
even though there isnt gonna be an invasion game type, theres always someone that will make it. same with TAM, vCTF, etc.
i really hope someone will make a Siege Mod. if u guys played UT99 up until last breathing days, there was this mod called Siege. its gonna take forever if i explain it, but yeah, it was a blast.
