I'm getting tired of having to typing out books to help some of the newer people. Directing them to the froums, at times only makes them come back with more questions.
I understand some of the reasoning of why it was removed. Yes it was abused by certain players. However, in the grand scheme of things It would have been better to remove those players from the game then to continue in this fashon.
Admins have to stop what they are doing, log in, get to dwadmin menu, then slap them. Instead of just pressing the talk button and saying what needs to be said. This also may have others think twice about breaking the server rules if the admin is going to make them look like the village (or in this case server) idiot.
The server has ample bandwidth and processing power to support it. It's obvious since It did so flawlessly in the past.
Other crappier invasion servers have it enabled. How can we claim to be the best invasion server if we aren't providing what the others are. Yes we have a better solution (ventrilo), However players are still reluctant to get on.
This isn't a public flame, I'm just trying to garner some support on the subject.
Please turn voice chat back on.
I agree, I don't want to stop shooting Lucifer to tell someone to link to me, or teleport back to the safe room to type a reply to someone's message. Plus it adds a greater sense of community. That's always good.

At first i was against this idea fully but now that i have not had it for so long and after seeing how most people used it properly on the one weekend i would also like to see it back.

I would love to have it back on as well. I really don't like having to type out novels to answer questions. :cat:

It woudln't bother me if it were restored.
I kind of like it off. I hear less stupid, rambling pubescent boys that sound like mike tyson talking about the dumbest crap one can think of, for what seemed to be many minutes at a time.
I do understand the notion that talking is faster for a lot of things though too.
Tough call.

Its pretty simple if the trouble causers are banned, im for it but this wasnt the case last time they were allowed to continue playing on the server hence voice chat being turned off.

My 2 pennies...
While I really hated the level of inane chatter that was taking place before voice chat was turned off, I do find that I agree with Hornet and Nut, et al, that it's much easier to communicate verbally when player's are asking questions. It's particularly bad for low levels...they stop to type/ask as question or let someone know they need a heal or weapon and the next second they're dead. Having to find a safe spot from which to communicate is laborious and puts a crimp in the entire reason we're all in there in the first place...to have fun!
Having said that, I also think that it's up to the admins to control the situation adequately. I realize that some peeps are more chatty than others, but we can still be polite on our end and ask them to comply with our wishes, and if they persist it is ever so easy to administer a slap or kick for levels. (thank you again, Snaggle!)
If voicechat gets turned back on, I think some guidelines would be in order, for admins and players:
Most conversations should be limited to the map currently in play, your status, needs and wants, offers of weapons, location, appreciative exclamations when a nice adren master hands you a vorpal shock...infi link...healing mines, warnings of incoming bad things to your fellow players, etc. Please note that I said ~most~...we all have different levels of tolerance for bs..and even that changes often for every person. It's up to the admins to apply order when necessary and it's up to the players as well, as they should police themselves and their fellows. I know...I know...but I'm not some idealistic dreamer! I prefer to hope for the best and if we have to deal with the worst, we have the tools to easily do that too.
General greetings and "hey how ya doing?" sorts of things are fine.
Discussions about your latest computer build, software, mods, skins, hacking, random ramblings on any subject, emotional outbursts, plaintive wails about your current physical state/wants/needs, obessessions or what you just ate, will probably get you a warning and/or kick and should be avoided. There are multitudes of forums and threads here on the website for those types of discourse. There is also the Ventrilo server, where, I might add, everyone has much better control over what you choose to listen to and at what volume. And, unlike the UT voice chat, the "mute player" option works every single time!! :)
Use a little common sense, people...and we'll be fine.
