Black Friday is about being first or second in line at a large retail store so that when the store opens you can buy high tech items at white hot sale prices called "door busters".kaeolian wrote:What is BF all about ? I mean I know it means much cheapness of goodys but why ?
It's become increasingly insane every year. Now people will spend their Thanksgiving Day camping outside of a Best Buy or Circuit City so that they can be one of the first people in line on Friday (the next day), allowing them to actually buy that $300 laptop (and all sorts of other goodies) that was (essentially falsely) advetised in the store's Black Friday sales flyer. The stores carry low minimum amounts of the doorbusters. So a store might have only ten of the $300 laptops, which will sell out in less than a minute after the store opens. Expect to see massive crowds full of people in some of these stores, often in violation of local fire codes.
My strategy is to shop at Staples because I like the way that my local Staples handles Black Friday (distributing tickets for items) and they tend to have a good stock of the doorbuster loss leaders. I'm debating whether to buy a lappytop for $350 there. I'd only need to line up about two or three hours before the store opens. Beats the beejeezus out of spending an entire day sitting outside of a store.
Note that some of the folks who do that buy a large number of doorbusters so that they can sell them on eBay.

yeah, some of the stores just don't handle it very well. i went to sears 2 years ago and waited for about 2 hours for a free $10 gift card. well they had 2 entrances so obviously there's already a problem there cause they should've made them line up at 1 entrance. they didnt' give out tickets either so when they opened the doors everyone pretty much stormed in and i had to punch and hadoken a few people in the face. i think my brother was the last person to get one. insanity.

i got an email for black friday deals from newegg.com and i got this mid tower case. it was just $50 after rebates and the black friday deal and there's free shipping.
case
i think that's the right link but i guess their website is going a little slow right now.
also bought that 320GB hard drive from best buy.

I just bought things online ... The only thing I'm worried about is having enough time to do the rebates once they arrive, but assuming things arrive on time I should still have a week to do that.

I managed to get orange box @ BB for $25.
I had some gift cards left over from LAST christmas. With all the giftcards, I was able to get UT3 CE, COD4, and Orange box for about $20 out of pocket.
I new those things would come in handy one day :drunken:
