Depends. Is money a factor? Do you want cheapest, best bang for your buck, or simply the best duo regardless of price?

Also, are you going to overclock?

- let's say, a popular processor, the most wanted , most used by gamers out there.. overclockable of course at reazonable temps .. stock speed of 3 GHz or close, not the most expensive thing either .. you get me.

this is the processor bean just got. it's the new 45nm so that means less wattage and less heat.

yep, this is the most popular right now. As damnidge said, I just got it and it owns! easily overclockable to 4ghz.

Faster FSB as well.

Plus, smaller manufacturing process => cooler chip => less heat => less energy.

Both L2 and the improvements made to its architecture should enhance performance in any task. if you want to learn more you can skim this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wol ... ,1773.html

And here's one on overclocking: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wol ... ,1777.html

Out of curiosity what makes you want a dual core over quad? I myself decided I didn't need more than dual but that was a year ago when quads were more expensive.

- Thanks for the input.. very much appreciated -- The thing is I always want speed on a single task, rather than many task at slower speeds - Core duo is already maybe too much for me - but I'm switching to intel Mostly for the temps factor ..
