is it at all possible that because of the server crash hack that it might have messed up the patch that you put on the server or it messed up something else in the server?

Yes, I would agree. The server played well right after the patch.

There is one thing that I don't understand, and maybe someone could explain it to me. How can I experience 70% packet loss (F6) in game and remain connected (laggy, to be sure, but still connected), and yet when I see no more than 2% - 10% with no apparent lag beforehand I am disconnected?

@TW - > You are correct - it don't think it is the patch - i had been playing quite a bit in the last 2 weeks & had not experienced any trouble until Friday - it has to be some sort of routing problem not a server problem

However, something still doesn't feel quite right. I can't quite put my finger on it. I still have a couple of things I can try, but I'd rather not before I'm forced to.

For now, let's hold off on further traces. Let's see if over the next few nights people feel things are getting better, worse, or are about the same.

Toxic, our 4 CoD4 servers have proven to have the same issues, so I highly doubt that the patch applied to the UT2004 servers has anything to do with it, and I agree something is fishy with this.

I live within 100 miles of DW>Hamster, and he lives within 100 miles of KarmaKat, but the two of us experience the disconnects, while Karma does not. Because of our close proximity to Dallas, I have no idea as to why we would not route similarly.

Also to my knowledge, there have not been any significant changes to any of the CoD4 servers, at least not by my hands. So it shouldn't be related to the CoD4 servers either.

The fact that Ventrilo has no hiccups during these lag outs, indicates that it is likely unrelated to cheap hardware as well.

Let me know if you try anything, and I'll check out the CoD4 servers.

I'm connecting from California; my ISP is Cox.
I'm also in California and using Cox, if that helps, but I don't play any other servers so I can't really compare.

If anyone needs software to do trace routes, click here for WinMTR:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winmtr.html

or click here for PingPlotter: http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html

They're both freeware...easy to use and give you good info about what routes your ISP is using to get you to our servers. I urge everyone to try and get a trace when ever you encounter problems and post them here. Please remember to edit the info...otherwise those first two hops or so will be giving your IP address to the public.

That is correct , no changes have taken place over the past couple weeks and have also been seeing the lag issue there . Would tend to believe it is not the patch.
