This is a video with a brief history of the Windows desktop, how it has evolved and what the new Windows 7 desktop will offer. It has some cool features and thought I would share this with those who may be interested in the improvements to the desktop in Windows 7.

OK I added the link again.

Well it works on my machine in my office but I tried accessing it from one of my Windows servers and it just keeps buffering. The only difference is my office pc has media player 11 and my server has media player 10. I'll just remove the link. Sorry

You can do a search for Windows 7 desktop video and see a few youtube videos but there not as nice as the conference I tried to show you. There are a lot of cool features and from what I have seen and read Windows 7 will make Vista be even more hated than it already is by some. Although for me I think Vista 64bit is awesome. I also received an email today that SP2 for Vista should be released in a couple of months or even sooner. No real upgrades to the OS but it does address a few issues related to speed.

Here is a nice article regarding Windows 7

Who in the hell at Microsoft decided to actually make Explorer useful and understandable?

Who decided that running the x64 version of Windows 7 in 1.5 GB of RAM should actually perform?

What engineering team decided internet Explorer 8.0 should fly through the internet?

What group thought to protect a users data via a simple and dynamic RAID 0 setup was a good idea?

What brain-trust had the audacity to come up with the idea that when an application is minimized it should release it's unused system resources back to the OS? WHO? Who did this? I want answers!

Honest to god, I think the folks at Microsoft are trying to make my head explode! I can’t handle this kind of performance. I just can’t. I had to load it on three machines just to make sure someone up in Redmond wasn’t screwing with me!

Right now, I have 6 applications open, including three independent Internet Explorer browsers, Word 2007, Powerpoint 2007, Windows Messenger, AVG Free 8.0, and a couple of Explorer windows and I am using a TOTAL of 900MB. DID YOU READ THAT MICROSOFT! 900 MB Total! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!

I am absolutely stupefied the engineers at Microsoft decided to develop, using the Windows Vista/2008 kernel no less, a stellar OS even in this early stage. I can’t handle this!!! I am not use to this. I am use to bloatware. I am use to slow… I am use to… Vista.

I am use to Vista pausing for no apparent reason and having to hold onto my laptop praying it doesn’t take off like a UFO.

I'm use to Vista kicking my processor up so high I could use the heat from the fan on the bottom of my laptop to dry my hair.

I am use to having to shove 4 – 8 GB of RAM into every system I own just to get Vista to perform.

I am use to scores of fellow techs hammering me about how Vista is killing them from a hardware and resource perspective (like I have a “bat phone” directly to Mr. Ballmer and Mr. Gates).

I am use to defending Vista having to wear full battle gear damn near every time I talk to someone about Vista which, if I really think about it, leads me to believe the engineers at MS are trying to take away my job and actually develop an OS that’s useful, fast and flat out what Vista should have been. I'm watching you engineers like a HAWK now!

So, here is what I need for you all to do: Pay NO attention to Windows 7. Run out right now and buy Vista and stay with that for… ever. Pay NO attention to anything Microsoft, or the tech community says about Windows 7. Forget Windows 7… wait for Windows…. 10.

The reason I am saying this is simple. Microsoft is about to put out a truly terrific OS and I’m worried about your health. When you get your hands on this OS your head could possibly explode. Seriously, you might have a brain aneurysm and die. You will not be use to the performance. You will not be use to the included applications being useful and actually helpful. You will not be use to the web and web services actually providing useful applications which work. You will not be use to your laptop battery actually lasting. You will not be use to faster startup times.

Bottom line: If you use Windows 7 you might keel over and die. Only the truly strong and young people on planet earth should attempt using Windows 7, since I think they are the only ones with the entire body strength and mindset to absorb what MS is about to release.

Folks… you have been warned. Don’t use it… it… it just makes too much sense. It… it performs to well. It’s… it’s… dangerous to your health. Trust me on this. Stick with the slow stuff… way better for your health.

Damaged, do you think you could post a link to a page just before the video, then tell us what to click on to get to the video... if that makes any sense?

This is the same video but without the keynote speaker in it. I found it on someone elses blog. Give it a try.

And select PC24 Windows 7: Welcome to the Windows 7 Desktop

Its the 11th one down.

Not sure why some can view the one on the 1st post and others can't.
