my issue: running a desktop installation of ut2004 from a pirated copy of ut2004 and a keygen'd cd key.
i finnalllyyy got another copy of ut2k4 (after a hdd failure and broke disks about a year ago) and a paid for cd-key. i'd like to change my desktop installation cd-key to my new one (installed on my laptop) but don't really want to do a clean install for the following reasons: 1) dont wanna re-d/l mods/skins/etc. 2) i don't forsee any issues...but i'm running a rc of windows 7...and can't find the cd key listed under regedit/local_machine/software...and if it doesn't for some reason work i don't want to have to guess or keygen a working key and reinstall the pirated copy all for nothing.

i've found a cd-key changer for ut2k4 but havnt tried it out 'cause i dont wanna mess with anything just yet. tips? bbl;work 'n chores..

Well if don't want to lose your files while reinstalling, you could always backup your data into an external Hard Drive. Then Reinstall. Then whatever file(s) you want back, simply copy/paste the files from the external hard drive to your newly installed game.

not in the lack of strength,
not in the lack of knowledge,
but rather in the lack of will.

well, the cd key changer i found worked fine and i got what i wanted done...but the Inv: Monster Mash server wont recognize me and my ign and thinks i'm an _imposter. I don't really mind starting over again cause ive had to before...but i around level 100 or so as an am and i'd kinda not want to have to start it again...
am i going to have to pm wraith or cheapshot to help me with this bit?

It thinks your an impostor because you did change your CD key.

All take notice changing your CD key will not allow you to access the character on MM or MM2 that you have been playing. It is not our fault you played for weeks, months or years on an illegal copy and it is not our priority, to help you get those levels back.

sounds about right. didn't think i'd get back my 1st character off my original disks either, so didn't bother then. Though as I understand from your statement Acy, my character under that particular IGN is basically lost to me now and should probably just start a new one. That about it?

As Karma's front page article describes here:

If you ask very nicely and have a good reason. They might be willing to help you out. But it will be at their discretion and time allowance.
