Would any scripter be interested in making this? Just as importantly, would DW be interested in adding it to the servers? The concept would range from an advanced mutator that would push any encountered player skins and models to the other players (optionally of course) to a simpler mutator that just makes a list in your UT2004 folder of what people use. You could then download them yourself.

I've wanted something like this since UT came out, maybe I should have learnt uscript and did it myself but I never did. There are so many good models out there and unless you install the entire catalougue of skins and models, you won't currently know what people are using. A mutator like this is long overdue imo. What do you think?

In the absence of it, would players like to reply with whatever skins or models they use on DW? I'd install them just to see the variety. Thanks.

I'm not sure but I believe the player skins can be forced if the server permits it. However, this will force players to download all skins and precache them if they have the PreCache Player Skins setting checked. Increases bandwidth, loading screens, longer downloads, etc...

But for your suggestion about players posting their skins, I think you should check out this link: Skins and Models! Show Us Some Skins!
Maybe this may help you understand why we don't force players to download all of these skins.

Thanks Ant, didn't know about servers being able to push skins but I can imagine the problems involved. The only thing I've seen similar was one Dutch iCTF server for UT2003, somehow there were a lot of clones there and the various other models people were using were visible.
I downloaded over 3/4 of the available player models, skins and everything else myself a few years ago then installed the wrong mod and it left UT2004 unusable. I think my UT2004 folder was 22.5 gig in size at the time and was getting so many version mismatches with the game, was hardly worth doing.

If pushing the actual models and skins isn't really viable, do you think a mutator that just lists any used in a text file is a good idea? I'm not sure if it's possible to have a completely clientside mutator that could just ask the server what custom skins were being used and add them to the list. Then people would at least know which ones to download to see some in game. Especially useful on servers like yours I think where the same faces appear continuously. I can't think of another way to get player skins and models involved anyway other than download quantities at random and hope for the best or rely on a thread like the one you posted.
