I was thinking about doing all of the maps from the original Unreal, revamping them with UT2004 graphics (nothing too fancy really) and having them all tie together (finish one map, load the next) starting with low XP rewards, working your way up to larger ones of course. This would be a second project i work on to pump out some playable maps for the server while working on my larger Biohazard3 map (now being named HellOnEarth)

That is a really good idea! I would love to see that in action . Do you think about ading some *1 map 1 wawe 1 boss* maps or challanges too? That would be awesome to see. Something new. Something that will get some more life and excitement into the game!

Definitely something I considered, even looked through a couple to check out the possibility of it. Unfortunately I'm not entirely sold that Unreal maps would make good UT2004 coop maps, just because there are a lot of cramped areas and few opportunities for lots of players to go get in big fights. MonsterHunt maps might be a better place to look.

Do you have any links or any of that i could check out 'monsterhunt' ?

Now that you say it, alot of the maps are pretty small. If i made it into parts though (like xeno 1 and 2) it could be like a campaign story map, where the main focus of it is to get the winning xp and going through the adventure of it?

and @ Habulin,
could you be more clear about what you mean when you say 1 map 1 wave 1 boss?

Your best bet for finding good MonsterHunt maps is probably just finding a MonsterHunt server and playing some. It's a mod for the original Unreal Tournament, there are probably some servers still active.

I did some googling and I found this site, which seems to have a decent list of maps, but it's impossible to say which ones are any good without going through a lot of them.

Some ones that I do remember as being kind of decent were MH-Cliffs and MH-Canals. Those were neat levels, very Unreal-style but had good space for coop play.

I could still do some of the original U1 Co-Op, select maps, and make a campaign out of it, but im rethinking this idea simply because of how the maps were made, it would be a pain for me to REMAKE them for more ut2004 style visuals, id have to redo all the brushwork, so converting the whole thing is deffinately out of the question but its a possiblity to do some of the more open maps and make a smaller campaign version of it

However, Unreal two maps would deff. be a possiblity.. they are more open if i remember correctly(quite a few of them actually, most notably the one map which is on a large planet which is actually a creature not a planet.

You can directly import Unreal/UT maps into UT2004 if you eliminate all the non-transferable actors (pretty much anything other than brushes & lights) and export / import the .t3d. That'd work, although you would have to remake the movers and deco objects as static meshes and add all the triggering and monster placement yourself. I also recommend scaling up by at least 50% for the brushwork due to UT2004 movement.

Unreal 2 maps would definitely be cool if you wanted to try your hand at bringing them to 2k4. I didn't find the Unreal 2 editor to be stable enough to do anything with, but maybe you'll have some better luck. One of the downsides is the big file download size for any Unreal 2 map with all those Unreal 2 textures, SMs, sounds, etc. Not that it'd dissuade me from downloading and playing it.

Well unreal 2 i dont think has long levels like unreal, and with the movement itd probably be alot quicker, and be made into a storyline.. so low XP, lower maps, higher xp for maps further down the chain..

as for unreal, its already been converted to ut2k4 as its own little mod / gametype setup which is actually quite good, but the way the brushes work i dont want to bother. For example one of the levels, actually the level u start off playing in the ship, is like all 1 brush... i wouldnt work with that, so im veering away from unreal, but unreal 2 peeks my interest a bit.
