WD produces enterprise class SATA drives which are designed for 80% duty and 1.2 million hours MTBF. They do not produce them in anything smaller than 160GB.
I did not want to go through the expense of buying Raptors for this build. These drives cost 1/3 of the price of a raptor for equivalent size.
I get most of my rack mounts on Ebay. This one happened to be a Tyan Barebones which I upgraded, but I usually buy the case, and build my own.
These days it is hard to find small hard drives. It is just not worth it.
I was looking this weekend for some boxes to sell as a firewall solution. Obviously, hard drives are not a huge part of that. But, you might as well buy big because it is more expensive to buy small.
Do you guys run Windows or Linux on the server side?
Cool beans! That hardware looks so purty.... so much shiny copper inside.... :compress:
Remember years ago when copper was so expensive and people would steal wiring and anything else not nailed down that was made of copper... I can only imagine how much they would be drooling to have that box!
