Lets be realistic...

UT3 should be coming soon with a new gametype, improved vehicles, and MORE PLAYERS! Death Warrant will be there with hardware to spare!

This is not a game any of us has played. All we know about it is from information given to us by its developers who obviously have a vested interest in making it look like the best thing since sliced bread. All we have seen has been from carefully edited and constructed video footage.

Let me tell you something, I am not really as big a fan of UT as most who play it. I go roped in because of the community. In having such a small gaming community, that aspect was a lot more fun than any other FPS game out there. But seriously, the game itself is pretty average, maybe even below average. It was launched severely bugged (and remains severely bugged). The vehicles upon release were grossly miss-matched (anyone remember the queues of people waiting for raptors while scorpions stood empty?). There are some bad flaws in some of the weapons and shock is just stupidly overpowered. Epic themselves have not tried to deal with aimbotters as other FPS games developers do - by patching and coding the game to make it harder to hack. Instead they browse the UTAN forum and ban people even accused of botting from the master server. The code of the game is so flawed people can even set up fake servers to steal CD hashes and Epic wont do jack about it.

And now they've moved from Atari to Midway?

Midway are the ones responsible for releasing the utterly dire Unreal Championship 2 on Xbox. Anyone play this? I looked forward to it for months. I really did. I eagerly awaited its release and followed every scrap of info that was leaked out about it. I was at the shop as soon as the doors were open to buy it. Payed my 40 quid ("bucks" if you will) and got it home. Popped it in with glee and awaited what would surely be the finest gaming experience of my life....

:cussing: AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! :cussing:

GONE where the various guns, instead replaced with a particular projectile weapon for each character. Instead the game went with MELEE COMBAT!!!! So as I was running back with the flag, getting whomped on the head by someone I realised something - they had just ripped me off the bastards! This was NOT an FPS game at all.

They even have FATALITY COMBOS. Yes, the ones from Mortal Kombat. press a,b,up, down, down, y to turn your opponent into a spud and cook him. Great. Ohhhh, and look who is a selectable character... Raiden from Mortal Kombat.... Ohhhh and look who publishes Mortal Kombat.... Midway.....

Unreal Mortal Kombat. They never told us that is what they were making.

Not saying UT 2007 is going to be bad, it may be great. But lets not suck its knob quite yet. And lets definitely not send a message to Epic that we will be buying the game even if they make a complete mess of it.

Actaully unreal mortal kombat is actaully something prefered by the older DWs. You can ask wraith or toxic about the karate mutator.

There is nothing wrong with shock, it just a particully useful weapon. Flak alt, goo alt, and rocket alt (tri-barrel) are all in the same damage class as shock combos. Its just a question of knowing when to use each. My problem is that i dont understand the physics of the game so i tend not to use the other weapons much. Its wildy chaotic with all the leaping, which could make shock primes almost impossible to hit.

I agree with the cheating issue, punkbuster allready supports another game based on the UT engine named america's army. They should be using that, its very safe and bans could carry on from other games like quake 3 for example.

Scorpions still arent used for multiple of reasons. Speed, armor, weapon type, weight, manuverabilty at high speeds, to vulnerable to attack from other vehicles. The only good thing about it is the web which doesnt get the credit it deserves becuase its so damn hard to use.

The Shock Rifle is just stupidly powerful. It was a really good weapon but most of the maps were tighter and so other weapons were more viable. In 2k3 they went and made the Shock primary more powerful, but decreased the power of the combo. That was probably the worst move they could've done. All the 2kX maps are huge and the Shock primary is your best bet for fragging someone at most distances. Even though I know the Shock is pretty much overpowered -- I have to wonder what they're going to do for Onslaught. Footsoldiers are very reliant on the Shock's capabilities to survive against vehicles. I'm thinking they'll probably add damage attenuation over distance to weapon the long range Shock hits, but hopefully that won't mess up vehicles too much.

I have to agree with a lot of other complaints as well -- Weapon and vehicle balance in general is very out of whack. Things in this series got screwed up when Epic did a complete and undesired overhaul to everything with 2k3. I'm hoping that 2007 will be a great game as the original UT was, but I'm not betting on it. To me, characters in 2007 look like characters in 200X, not the original. That is to say, it looks like they're treating Unreal Tournament not as a gritty, realistic tournament but more as "World Wrestling Entertainment" in space.

The redeeming quality of UT2kX, and it will be the redeeming quality of 2007 as well, is simply having the ability to mod the hell out of the game. Quite frankly, there is no better value for your 50 dollars in the gaming world. $50 buys you not only UT, but hundreds of maps, skins, models, and more - Professional quality development tools used to make large numbers of game mods, many of which are nothing like UT. Compare all this to the infamous "horse armor" pay-to-download for Oblivion or Half Life 2: Episode 1's five hours of gameplay. So, yeah, I'll be buying UT2007.

SIK WTFITA? I do see Gorzakk point, and please no one take offence, but at the same time,...it is Unreal, a video game, an escape from reality, in my opinion the best I've ever found, (legal) and like all the others before I will go buy at least one copy and play the hell out of it. 2007 may not be a masterpiece when/if ever it comes out, but I get too much out of Unreal not to go get it. And ,yes I am just dumb enough to enjoy it (I hope) no matter how it comes out. If not, 2004 rocks and I doubt seriously that Toxic would change the servers to Mario Bros. just because he didn't like UT2007, so WTF?
Greedy American INC's,....and?,..we all deal with that on a daily basis. Not like their gonna, but would it be better if they just chunked the idea of 2007? I really wouldn't think so. All we can do is wait and see, enjoy what we do have, and hope for better to come. Just take a deep breath,.... hold it till ya get that warm fuzzy feelin',... and relax, it's gonna be O.K. Just make sure to hit the donation link on the website often!!! LOL
Thanks KE

I hear what you all are saying, I could say that I would not be playing UT had I not joined DW. IT is all about the community and the people for me, I love the game, but it would never hold my attention for more than a month before DW.

obviously u have not seen this in game video footage from a ge force 7800 which to my understanding is IN GAME FOOTAGE, not rendered video.
I mean if this is what it looks like then I must have! Hope others will join me?

Gameplay is vastly more important than graphics. And this game folks is not being made for PC, its also coming out on PS3. Why exactly? Because thats Midways main market. Midway are the worst developer for interfering in a games development and adding its own gimmicks...
Characters from the Mortal Kombat series have sometimes appeared in other video games as secret characters, particularly other Midway games. Examples of this include:

* Raiden had a cameo appearance in a pinball machine, Bally's 1994 World Cup Championship, in a bonus round.
* Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero appeared as playable characters in early versions of NBA Jam TE and the Sega Saturn conversion. [2]
* Raiden and Shinnok appeared as unlockable characters in the original NFL Blitz game.
* Raiden appeared as an unlockable character in Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict (which coincidentally also included a fatality system similar to MK's). Shao Kahn's voice is also an alternate to the default announcer.
* Sub-Zero and Scorpion both appear as secret characters in MLB Slugfest 20-04.
* Scorpion can be unlocked as a skin for the main character of the Midway game Psi Ops.

And their fanbase is letting them. Come on - Hoverboards ffs? Nades, Goo and spiders in one gun? All gimmicks. Its getting made for consoles, not for us. And if the UT community keeps on praising them for doing this the game is not going to meet everyones expectations.

Well Gorzakk, like I said before I share a lot of your concerns, but I'm not entirely convinced of your pessimism. Epic is a big enough name and UT is a big enough franchise that I don't think Midway will be interfering with them.

Hoverboards have been something that the UT2kX community has been wanting for awhile (and there are a few different hoverboards, Chaos, Locust, and others I probably don't know about), so it's not like it's some kind of stooping or surprise they're in there. Personally I'd prefer if people had the Trans, but either way the point is just to move across the map faster.

I'm hoping no Mortal Kombat characters show up. Hopefully Epic learned their lesson with Mr. Crow and all the other moronic characters that showed up in 2kX.

Combining the Goo/Grenades/Mines isn't a big deal to me. This is probably more due to the ease of only creating one weapon model rather than three, though I'd prefer if they'd work on making the Bio better to adding Grenades (which are basically only useful vs. nodes) or mines (which need serious work or else they shouldn't even be in the game).
