Ok, we had FIOS internet a few months ago, before we had to move. We were in on the pre-order of it, so one of the first people to get it. We were living in an at least 20 year old house at the time, which we were renting. The install did take awhile, but I don't think it was 4 hours, and it was done by just one guy. End result is totally worth it though, trust me. Faster than cable, and we had zero issues for the duration of when we had it. Soon as we are able again, we will have it back, that is a guarantee. This stuff is the future of connections, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Install went fine, We got a really good and flexible tech here. He came in at 9:30, and was still around atleast 1:30 (no one could stay longer). He stuck around for a bit longer and finished most of the work. I had the connection last night, but i couldnt get a router to work with it. He came back this morning to install the router.

I took these traceroutes laste night. Overall my ping dropped around 20ms to both dallas and chicago. Other then lower ping i also have less hops on my route. This is exciting becuase verizon is planning on getting into the game server market with fiber connections. Unfortunitly, i havent had a site max my connection out yet. Although i havent been playing with download much. Microsoft servers gave me a stable 670 Kbps transfer rate, and filefront had a stable 450. With both i didnt feel an impact on net speed. Maybe later ill watch videos while download some files and see what happens.

I pay $48 for 800k/400k, and thats because I have some family in the cable company who got me a "deal", or else it would be 640k/320k. :sad2: :pukeright:

That sucks.. I get 3.5Mb download cable for $35/month. I think that I can get 5Mb for like $50. Competition is a wonderful thing.

Well thats only possible with ADSL 2, also your still on a copper network which inherits all the problems with regular DSL. Not to say fiber elimanates all those problems as a vast majority of servers probally still on a copper network.

BTW 15£ is $28.12, which is almost 2$ less then what im paying for this.

-- I Dont know why but I get the feeling that the Cable service and over all the NEtworks here on Texas are just the best in the whole World ,IMHSO - Thats what my ISP makes me feel like.. I really get nice Download Speeds lets say a stable 900kb/s Download at almost any site , the more i've seen.. with my cable modem and 70kb/s Upload also the most I;ve noticed in like 3 years i've been with Cable. (- when i run the test It comes out 8mb/s Download and 400Kb/s Upload -To a server in Dallas-)

Ive been really happy with Time Warner Cable - Xept for some instalation gliches, But thats It.. I wish I could take this service to anywhere I might go all for 39 Bucks a month.

Nice to see your improvements Mike- :blackeye:

Texas usually has some good bandwith to go around. If you notice alot of servers are located in the dallas area. Here we have a problem with population density. Such a large population in such a small area. It makes it hard to get apporved to dig up streets for a utlity you can consider a luxury.

Defiant.....

When we had Fios we had a 15 meg connection. Loved it. I could watch videos, and do like 5 downloads off fileplanet and chat on vent at the same time. While someone mentioned that an electric signal travels faster. it does but the difference is it's restrictions. Cable is affected by heat, distance, weather, ect ect ect.

Fios has the CO located outside your house. In fact it's attached to your house. So it's not affected by distance. It also connects your phone to fiber optic and it plugs directly into your house. There is no copper removal or anything like that. There is a line put through your yard thats fiber optic and the the co is attached to it.

From there they take your phone box and connect all the wiring from it to the new box. Technically if you look it is basically 2 boxes that open up in a butterfly shape. One side is a phone box that's like the one you already have. The second is the fiber optic side. In the middle of those 2 is a computer that transfers the signal to how it needs. So you loose nothing in your home. And gain more than you can imagine.
