Thanks to everyone for dropping me notes about the server crashing. Please keep it up. Email is something I try to check frequently.

TBH I'm really concerned about it. I see nothing in the logs that would lead me to believe it's a hardward failure. In fact, I see absolutely NOTHING in the logs regarding a crash at all.

We never had a crash before the invasion server was installed. I didn't hink that could take the whole server down, but now I wonder. We've had 3-4 hard crashes in the last few weeks, after going a month without one.

hard crashes? as in the server locks up and needs power-cycling?

Based on what i know about the way rpg tallies exp, it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't a bit 'unclean' elsewhere. The page that Wail linked me in the 'invasion technical' thread, was very revealing... i mean there's several functions that could have been extended to keep performance high . . .

every rpg invasion server i've ever played on has a habit of crashing, seemingly relative to the number of total player minutes which would suggest some kind of leak or overflow.

and you know... i need to say thanks for your effort with this seemingly utopian environment. the website doesn't give me a headache, nor the other players, nor the game itself. asthetically it's a pretty relaxing place to play.

the only downside is that now that i don't have to deal with the romances and fairy's of the world, the lack of map/gameplay variety has begun to bother me. but that's well within my sphere of influence (=

Right now were going through the map lists that we've compiled as a must for our server. If you would like to see a specific map on, just request it.

As far as the invasion server causing problems, i see it as being plausible. Maybe its an issue with a hard drive access, that may explain why there is no log. We could put all the ini files on a ram disk i suppose.

The log I refer to is the event log for server 2003, which is supposed to record anything going on. Certainly, it should record a failure of something when the box crashes, but it shows absolutely nothing, except for the message that is issued right after the box comes back: Last shutdown was abnormal. It's almost as if the server doesn't shut down, but simply stops responding. Only way to know for sure it's the invasion server is to transfer it to Chi-town and see if it crashes there, and if the Vikings server remains stable.

Thanks for the compliments monsTo. You reap what you sow, and I'm a firm believer in having fun and having respect for your fellow players and those are the rules which govern the servers. Naturally, we'll attract players with similar attitudes who can live within and flourish under those rules. I'm really proud of this community, and of the quality people we have in the clan, in the SVAs, and most of the general public that plays on the server. We have had a few controversies for sure, but they have been amazingly few. I'm glad you found us, as you seem to fit right in. And thanks for your hard work in helping get the Invasion server some maps!

And I have to say I've really enjoyed the time I've spent on the SVA vent the last couple of weeks. There's a lot of good people there, and I can truly say it's been my pleasure to hang out with them.

With that said, once we get a message notification system installed, we'll be spamming the public teamspeak server, and hanging out there. In fact, we probably should just start hanging out there now, and spam it manually.

Did it do this from the beginning of RPG or only after some time . Could it be the blue screen of death basically and just restarting ?

Actually the first time it went down wern't we practicing , was that before RPG ?

The RPG seemed to run fine in the beginning only after an elapse time did it seem to go south . Being time based = stat points . The biggest thing that comes is Weapon Speed . Could it be that firing at 300% of normal could be the glitch ? Mines also seem to be a major issue on whatever it is . Thats why they were removed from some maps .. To many mines maybe ?

Couple Q's and food for thought.
