Umm, ouch

UT3 should be coming soon with a new gametype, improved vehicles, and MORE PLAYERS! Death Warrant will be there with hardware to spare!

Well I think he really did him self an injustice because he can obviously write its just a shame he cant see what was staring him in the face.

If he hadent written UT3 in there I would have had no clue what game he was talking about.

While I agree this guy is overly critical in many parts, seems not to have played it enough, and expresses himself a bit too sarcastically, I do agree with a few of his ideas. He states the game is only appealing to a small demographic. Is it just hyper teenage boys? No, not at all. But it is a limited demographic nonetheless. You also have to remember he was playing and rating the PS3 version of the game. Consoles are generally aimed and played by a much younger audience than the PC demographic, so in essence he may be making a bit more sense if he is approaching from a console mindset. If he was, another error was not making that clear.

While UT players I think have always been comfortable in their game never being the top dog as far as players or servers goes, its small player count has become much more pronounced with U3. I also find it ironic that the first reply in this thread is exactly what an over caffeinated teenage boy would write, lol.

He also commented on it not really innovating, and I have to agree with him. While I think the game is visually stunning, and that the Necris vehicles add a nice new feel, overall the basic game play is exactly the same as it was in UT2003 and UT2004, as well as many other FPSs, esp. in DM. Warfare is basically a tweaked ONS. While I have enjoyed playing it, after about 5 minutes I felt like I was playing ONS with really pretty graphics and another editors choice vehicle pack.

Everything else in his article is way too scattered or assumed.

I also want to comment on the menus and UI - IT SUCKS. The fact that I have to type a console command to join from spectator mode is absurd. That being omitted can not be attributed to the "console" adaptation, because consoles need the menu button, not a command. That simply shows either a lack of intelligent design, or plain sloppiness, both of which are also prevalent in the customizing and tweaking of this game and it's configurations. Is there a solid tweak guide for this yet?

Yeah there are some really indepth tweaking tools that do tons for you.

On a half off topic note, why the hell does cod4 show almost everysingle server as having 300+ ping :/ tbh that being screwed is far worse than any of the ut3 browser flaws

Seriously, I have several hundred servers under 50. And it is pretty playable over 100.

Yeah, the UI really is a big problem. Even though I spend most of the time in the game, every time you run into something you want to do other than play it's a hassle. Accept a friend request? Join a new server? Yeah, you've got to disconnect first.

I don't know why but Epic has gone from having a near-perfect interface in the original UT, to having a mediocre one in UT2004, to the piece of crap that UT3 has.

As of now I have 39 servers with a ping of 35 or less. I easily have over 100 that are 80 or less. I think you just need to get a new ISP.

Also, I don't know what your issue is that everything has to be a contest between UT3 and COD4. All I was doing was responding to the article Toxic posted, and making a complaint about the UI, which the last time I checked was an issue with everyone. Calm down dude.

So zeus, you think the issue was that UT3 may be based from the Gears of War UI?

Also, Wail, you have to excuse me if this is a total noob question because I know nothing of game programming, but is adding a join button something a kick-ass designer like you could add, or is that too much work?

I have not played GoW. I just know that EPIC's eyes got really wide open when they saw what a success it was on the XBOX360.

I think that that started them down this multiplayer - multiplatform road they are on. Even though PC users are their "bread and butter" (wow, can Mark Rein be any bigger of an idiot), that UI is obviously consolized.

Remember a year ago when all of the reports on warfare (or whatever it was called back then) were about 64p and 128p games? And we were going to be able to play PC vs. Xbox vs. PS3? I think that they quickly realized that the PCs could handle it, but the consoles had no shot. For whatever reason, they decided to make everything to the lowest common denominator. And you still can't play PC vs. Xbox vs. PS3. We had that aloysha guy over here telling us how we are stupid to build PCs because the PS3 was going to be so much better for so much cheaper. lol... Go back and read all of the stuff from a year ago on our forums. I really think that GoW put dollar signs in their eyes and they tried to be everything to everyone.

Then, they released a buggy product (probably pushed by their publisher) to get it out in the stores for Christmas and tried to compete with CoD4 and the Orange Box and Crysis.

And I don't even want to think about that gamespy crap they put into the system. A month ago, gamespy crashed and no one could get into any new servers. At least with UT2004 you had a favorites menu (I think that UT3 may be patched up now).

They should have kept it simple.
