After they locked and deleted hundreds of threads...
The whole thing was managed so poorly it is amazing that they sold any at all. The only reason they sold any was that they were living off of the UT name and the "Studio that brought you Gears of War".
If someone is going to ask me to invest $60 a game, I am going to ask for a somewhat usable product in return.
And then they have one of their top guys saying stupid stuff about PC gaming being dead. So, they have to do damage control with a bigger idiot.
Meanwhile other companies are working with their communities to get input on design considerations and play testing.
The other question that needs to be asked is what has CS1.6 done? Why are there so many people playing such an old game vs. everything else that has died off? I have never played it, so I have no clue.
It is amazing how EPIC so quickly killed their franchise.

IMO - The beta feedback should have been a lot better moderated. And once they went final they should have loosened up. What they did was pretty much the reverse of that. I don't see what the big deal is anyway, since I've made several hundred posts over at the Epic forums and haven't managed to get slapped down because I don't harp on the dead horses or act antagonistically.
Definitely a mess up as far as PR goes. Been looking at StarCraft 2 info and videos lately, and it's awesome the amount of community feedback they're fielding and how they're actually responding to comments about the look of the game, and keeping people in the loop with regards to changes to units and such.

Well, one of the other problems was that it seemed that the Beta forums were basically useless because they hardly fixed a thing between that and the release. What was the point of it if they were just going to release rubbish in the first place. (Sorry, I have been watching BBC all day.)
Whoever there PM was, needs some more lessons. Basically, it seemed that their plan was to stick to the project plan and not pay attention to the end product.
I stopped playing the demo after about 4-5 days once I realized the release date was three weeks later. I knew that there was no way that they could clean up the mess at that point. From what I understand, it has been patched up to a decent revision right now. The problem is, they killed the community. This is the Internet age now, and people know if a game is crap the second it is released. You can't patch it up 6 months later and expect to "remarket" it.
If you build it, they will come. If you build it poorly, they will never come back.
I don't know the history of Activision and CoD. But, I do know that IW did CoD2 and Cod4. Some other company did CoD3 and is doing CoD5. No one talks about Cod3 and they are dreading CoD5 because of how CoD3 turned out.
CS1.6 has more people playing than CS2, I think. I don't know why. Maybe because CS was originally a mod, built for and by the community? So, it has features that the community wanted vs. what the publisher thought that they wanted. This is what gets me about Epic. They can't seem to understand that the comp crowd (and I mean people like us, not pros) are their core players. They are the ones that are still playing UT99 and UT2k4 years after they were sold. The casual games have moved on to the latest and greatest.

Yeah - Even liking UT3, it was obvious to me from the demo that there were too many issues to release it before another 6mo. Now, there aren't many major issues I have with the game, but there are enough minor issues that it's unrealistic to expect them fixed in any shorter timeframe than that. Players making the wrong grunt sounds, defaulting to the demo character, dud projectile frequency, keybinding and graphics options in the UI, and various glitches I can't even remember. Minor crap, but annoying and still not fixed even with the latest patch.
That's not even including things that are personal preference like weaponswitch time and various other balance things.

Same here Wraith, played during demo, played for about 2 weeks and felt nothing for it. UT2k4 is my game of prefrance when it comes to the Ut Series.DW_Wraith wrote:I uninstalled UT3 just last monday. I never play it, UT2004 is my final game of their UT series.

No shame, no dishonor, will run away to fight another day!

Its sad to say but I am the same UT2k4 is the end of the line for me, I really tried to like UT3 and its a great looking game but the actual game play for me feels crap and very spamy all the time. The console issues dont bother me as its game play that I was looking for but that just didnt feel right for me.
COD4 and BF2142 are holding my attention right now.

You have ONE advantage over me.....you can kiss my ass and I can\´t!!
I know that there are some people who are hoping Steam provides some life. I just don't see it.
I think that their only way of reviving the series is to admit flat out, that they completely screwed up. Release UT3.5 in a near perfect form and offer discounts to those who purchased UT3.

What does "completely" screwed up mean, and what would you want to see in a 3.5?
In theory, we might see a 3.5 but I can't see what they could do to improve the gameplay substantially, besides adding in the Conquest mode that was talked about years ago, and bringing back official AS support (not necessary IMO, but most people can't see how AS is entirely possible in WAR). Making a legitimately good cooperative gametype (aka Invasion+) would be good, but I'm not sure how many new people that would draw in unless it offers substantial improvements over what's possible in 2k4.
I certainly would not want them to bring back dodge jump and all the problems that created with UT2k games.
