I have the EVGA 8800GT 512MB as well and I haven't had any problems with UT2004. The only thing I noticed, aside from better frames and consistently running everything maxed out, is some white flickering lines when I am downloading a package from the redirect (the all-black screen with the % readout).

Those lines are your mouse pointer. If you move your mouse up and down the lines will move too =P

I have not researched this, however it may be that the 8800GTS and UT2k4 bug only appears in XP and not in Vista.

I don't recommend upgrading to Vista unless you can verify this and are comfortable with the whole thing.

And if this is truly the case, who knows what impact XPsp3 will have on the situation. Again, I would not upgrade to sp3 until you have a real reason to and let everyone else deal with the growing pains.

- maybe theres a simple quick solution for the few maps causing the fps drop isue.. I understand it happens when you are inside something.. instead of trying drivers, patchs or whatever.. Quick! someone GiveMe one 8800 so that I can check in the Editor and Fix those maps for you !! :P

EVGA 8800 GT 512 owner here, use a Core 2 Duo and WinXP Pro. No low fps issues on any maps I've played in the last month (almost all regular ones including all the dreamuses).

Youtube videos are a bit dark with hardware acceleration on and the calibration thing in the latest drivers is useless but aside from that no problems. UT might have been a bit dark before I played with brightness/contrast/gamma but it looks fine now.

Where is everyone seeing problems?

I'm running an 8800GTX (thanks Wraith :compress: ) and I'm seeing a lot of hitching, pausing, hesitation, almost as if it's hard drive realted or something but I know it's not. I've removed all overclocks for now. I've got harware resources elsewhere in the system. Any ideas?

Well, that is the problem... The 8800GTS320/640 and 8800GTX/Ultra are all essentially the same product, from what I understand. Now, wraith can chime in here, but I don't recall him having any problems. But, I do remember Choco, Tsanger, and I all having problems in TAM. All at the same spots. It is related somehow to the textures being swapped in and out of VRAM, IIRC. So, it only happens in certain maps in certain places.

I tried playing ONS a couple of times and it was unbearable. Espcially Dreamus, I believe. SunTzu was a problem as well.

Snaggle had a fix that basically put the load onto the CPU. Even with a E6300 I dropped huge fps. So, basically, my 8800GTS was unusable in UT2k4. I have obviously moved on, but this still steams me quite a bit. No way a 4 year old card should out perform a new card.

Here is a 57 page thread discussing a bunch o crap.

The 8800GT was the next generation product which was suppossed to be slower than the GTS, but because of the improvements was actually faster at a lower price point. Which means that had to revise what a GTS was. So, I think that there are two generations of 8800GTS.

Do you have a link to the fix Snaggle had? I'd like to try it.

Pretty frustrating. My 6800 Ultra runs it better (albeit at lower settings).

After reading that post, maybe i'll try dual booting vista x64.

There were 2 maps that I had problems with, one I can't remember the name and its not in rotation, the other is the burger wars map, but it is better now than what it used to be, still no velvety smooth, but workable for me.

I skimmed the posts from the link zeus had, and they mention dynamic lighting. It may be a good thing to edit a known bad map and shut off dynamic lighting on the static meshes and see how much it helps. I believe I may have done that partially to the burger wars map. I'll have to look at it in the editor and see. If I remember, I'll try to do it soon.

Ya, I'm disappointed with the 8800GTX and the performance of ut2004. I don't have issues with Guildwars (but I rarely play it) , other than that, I dont have the time to play any other games.

I am pretty sure it is in the forums somewhere... I will go search.

Your other alternative is to upgrade to Vista. :)

This has been a problem since the card has come out, so I don't hold any hope that they will fix it at this point. It seems to plague all UE2 based games.

My 6600 runs the game better.
