I find Bitchslap plays a lot faster without the mines, actually...but I guess that depends on the teams. Still...mines are a pain because they're a weapon that you can't dodge with any kind of skill. That's the real annoying bit...especially on maps like Bitchslap.

Wait...on the enclosed maps...I wonder if they turn around instantly? Would a wall-jump be the trick you're thinking of?

Just side double dodge jump and use shock cores, flak, or rockets to blow them up. I rarely get kiled by mines, more the people spamming mini or link at me while im dodging the mines.

Spider mines are beyond simple to dodge if I'm free to just dodge them without having to avoid other threats. I don't even bother to destroy them most of the time as a simple sidestep (no complicated dodge moves required) when they jump at you will let them fly right on by harmlessly.

Most good players can move faster than spider mines can chase and catch you so the only time they're a real threat is in the mega spam situations on certain maps or when you've got 2 or more players throwing mines in the midst of a firefight full of other more high priority threats to your health. Even the best player can get taken out by some random spider throw spam in that type of a situation.

I'm not against mines, Kitty. I wouldn't change them, nerf them, or "balance" the game's arsenal by making other weapons more powerful. I love mines, they are so frustrating. In general, I am against nerfing or not spawning any weapon in the standard UT2004 set. If every player can get to every weapon then there is no reason to change anything. Without spider mines some maps take way too long to win, like BitchSlap.
LMAO are you kidding .. with the spider mines the map goes into overtime every round. Bah thats why we took them out .. Some maps dont need 10, 000 spider mines and that was Def one of them. We dont re design maps for personel belief we do it to balance out the teams so if any map on Spam Vikings shows up with no mines or another weapon missing it is to shorten the game up a little and make it winable.. Sorry not a flame just thought I would give you the reasons.. we spend alot of time discussing maps on DW .. this was one of them :) . other than that Mines are good in maps like Prime evil .. part of the game .. thnks for the opinion though without it we would never know how anyone felt about it .. Frag yah laters W W

LOL, that's cool, Whurl. I enjoyed reading your reply. Too often, "policy decisions" are defended in pious, liturgical terms by a smuggly pious decision maker. Not true for your tract above. The thing is, though, you're wrong about spider mines on BitchSlap. Put spider mines back on this map and after a while the best player, by example, will educate the most inexperienced, while :compress:
