Hey no problem Karma Kat, thank you for trying. I appreciate it very much. It's people like you who make Spam Vikings a nice place to go to. If you ever need some help on a map, I'd be glad to throw my 2 cents in. If your interested in testing a map I'm currently working over, let me know. You can kick the tires and make some suggestions and tell me what still needs work on it. I can post it in the downloads section. Its not quite done yet, about 3/4 of the way through...

Hey don't take it personal. I'd say only 10% of the maps out there have 32p potential, and most of them still need work on SOMETHING.

Please, please keep looking and suggesting. We definitely need maps.

There are many criteria required to be a good 32p map, but a simple rule of thumb is:

1. big map
2. plenty of vehicles
3. well balanced (i.e. red has 3 nodes on their "half" of the map, and so does blue and they're about as far apart.)
4. High FPS (FPS drops with 32p)
5. Multiple paths to the core (although this isn't necessary, it's a good thing to have)

Many Thanks, Wraith! :colors:
No tellin' when I'll manage to cobble something together on my own. Seems like lately all the usual real life stuff keeps getting in the way of my playtime!! :flower:
Dang it!!

But I'd be most happy to take your map for a test drive! I can manage to sneak that into my lunch hour...or two...ummm yeah....lunch hour. Looking forward to it!

And I agree about DW and Spam Vikings...a pretty good bunch o'folks and I'm glad I found y'all!

OK, KarmaKat, and anyone else who wants to start testing and giving any advice on what vehicles to throw in are welcome to download the ONS-ArcticConquestion-DeuxBetaA.ut2.exe file located in the downloads section. Go to the home page and click on downloads, then on the ONS folder, thats where I put it.

***** This is an early BETA, bot pathing is not complete, nor is vehicles and where and how many to put on the map either. ****

I would like your thoughts on what would be the best vehicles to begin with when starting a game, and so forth. Tell me your opinions on what would make this map play well. What is the part you like about it most, what is the least favorite. Be constructive please. This map wasn't made from scratch. I did have permissioon to mod this map a long time ago, and never finished it, but now I am nearing to that point... This is based on the old Arctic Conquest, 5 node choke point in the center with Levi in the center map. It is now a 14? (count?) node map, no Levi, and 2 independant paths to get to the other side.

Try it out, Let me know if you like it and whether it will make for a fun 32 player map. Just remember, its not quite done baking, and oh yeah, like all the other maps available for download, after you download it, just double-click on it, and the installer will put the map and any other needed files to the right location in your ut2004 directory. It doesn't get any easier than that!

Enjoy

Hey Rich....was just pullin' yer leg a little bit! :blackeye:

I figure the more eyes on the problem, the more likely something good will show itself.

But I really appreciate the guidelines!! Helps to know some of the parameters in order to winnow out all the crappy stuff!

First impressions after 2 matches:

Likes:
Nodes 1 & 2 provide for a decent attack point towards the core without being linked to the core.
Nodes 11 & 6 and 5 &10 will provide for some interesting game play since they are so close to eachother.
I like the fact that there are no choke points or cut off points.

Dislikes:
I don't like node 7 & 8. They are within shooting distance of the core with a direct shot. They will be tough to capture and the second you do you can immediately turn around and shoot the core.
I think that the door ways of your shed static meshes are really too small. A bot got the tank stuck at one and you had multiple vehicles in another which could cause problems when people pull out at the same time.
I don't know if you can make the mountains any higher in the middle. But you can fly right over everything. I guess the alternative would be to drop the stallz, however you may never get out of the core if that is true.

Just out of courisosty, how did you get your inclines so smooth? I am working on a map very similar and I had to use BSP because I could not get my inclines the way I like.
