So I no longer have my map, kind of annoys me.. A lot.

I from this point, will more then likely not make another map. Even though I have plenty of Ideas for new maps.

Until further notice, screw UT2004.
ROFL.....

try the following:
1. system restore (make a back-up (save) firsttttt)
2. try a software to recover (recently) deleted files
3. do an HDD check for errors...maybe bad allocation or something has your files on the HDD but are not shown...maybe just your HDD gone rogue, so you have to run any kind of software to fix data contained within
4. check if "hidden files/folders" is checked for the directory you worked on
5. check if you have any kind of synch-software running on your OS
6. chech your AV software of other antispam softweare you have installed if it messed with files on your HDD

I have done the system restore, and although It did bring back my ut Install there are still files missing.
So I'm thinking maybe the restore date wasn't far enough back? Or something, I'm going to run another system restore shortly see If that solves the Issue and go back further this time.
Note that sometimes AV progs prevent restore from working correctly, so you may have to disable them.
That may also help, but I have no Idea what those even are :P, Could you give me examples or tell me what the are or something? I'm not quite that computer smart haha.

AV = AntiVirus software -> disable it

If the restore worked (i.e. you didn't get a message stating "windows was unable to restore your computer to a previous state, blah, blah, blah") then any AV progs probably aren't an issue. It certainly wont hurt to disable them though.

I't didn't pop up that message, My game Is restored but the game Install Is still a bit messed up, and my map Is still gone.

Hoped this would've fixed It, but I don't think It will.

work data, data, documents, pictures and music in not meant to be stored in program and system folders

so...next time dont save your map in folder
C:\program files\UT2004
instead save it to a folder in desktop or a folder in documents folder (C:\user\documents\mapsforUT2004) or another partition like D:\maps
and also use an external HDD or usb stick to back it up each time...since your map data will be less than 500MB and it will take like 10-15 secs to back-it up and have them secured....

ps1: you may have restored your OS to the wrong restore point
ps2: if you use 3rd party cleanup software it may have erased files and folders if you dont know what you are doing...
ps3:the game Install Is still a bit messed up...its not, you mess it up....it can be simply fixed by doing a fresh game install
ps4:my map Is still gone...no its not gone unless you force-delete it yourself and you disabled all options of recovering recently deleted data...

give me your system specs, OS, hardware, HDD make model, so I tell you what software to use to check if your HDD is in good shape and how to recover your data

ps1: you may have restored your OS to the wrong restore point
I had thought of that myself, which Is why I did a system restore a few times going further and further back. But to no change at all.
ps2: if you use 3rd party cleanup software it may have erased files and folders if you dont know what you are doing...
All I'm doing Is going into the start menu typing "system restore" and clicking on the only thing that pops up. Then going through the restore process.
ps3:the game Install Is still a bit messed up...its not, you mess it up....it can be simply fixed by doing a fresh game install
The game Install after the restore was missing files, to no fault of my own. Ant was directing me on the files needed to be put back Into the folder. But the game install Itself Is missing ALL necessary files to even run. So I uninstalled the game.
ps4:my map Is still gone...no its not gone unless you force-delete it yourself and you disabled all options of recovering recently deleted data..
I'm sure It's more then likely gone, I have looked everywhere for It. Run the system restore to bring files back which half ass worked In Itself.

Windows 7 Home Premium, 8.00GB ram, 64bit Operating system, AMD Athlon(tm)II X4 620 processor 2.60GHz.
Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard.

Anything other then any of that, kinda screwed to figure out, because I have no clue.

[offtopic]and The game Install wasn't In program files, It was In. C:\Users\HP\Games\UT2004[/offtopic]

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW!!!!
what you should do now is:
reduce PC usage that affects HDD activity (reading/writing/overwriting)
stop doing more system restores, wont make any difference
do NOT defrag your HDD
do NOT partition your HDD

do the following:
1. create a "restore point" right now
2. Run any kind of 3rd-party software that specialisese in "Data recovery" like Wise Data Recovery or go here -> http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecov ... ograms.htm

*first (before doing the above)go to folder options, open a browser, Alt-> Tools -> folder options -> check the option "SHOW hidden files/folders" AND
do a windows file search (Ctrl+F) and search entire HDD for the map file using the exact name you have your file saved as....

* you could back up a few things first, although its unecessary since it wont be affected by the above procedure

_______________________________________________________________________________
what we want at this point is for you to restore your map files...

after you try all alternatives until we figure out if you can actually recover it....i will tell you what to do to check in what state your HDD hardware is...

______________________________________________________________________________
doing multiple system restores is not a wise choice unless in very specific cases.....-> you might end up with broken registry files, mismatched files and shortcuts, missing data etc...

But the game install Itself Is missing ALL necessary files to even run. So I uninstalled the game. -> thats good... you can do a proper uninstall which will delete all game DATA, then shift+delete the folder "C:\Users\HP\Games\UT2004" (unless you have cfg, ini, savegame files which you want to backup) and do a fresh install of the game...

using the editor, where did you choose to place your map data files? in what folder and destination???

Windows 7 Home Premium, 8.00GB ram, 64bit Operating system, AMD Athlon(tm)II X4 620 processor 2.60GHz.
Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard.
is that a desktop or a laptop? how old is your system? how old is your HDD?
give me your HDD configuration (tree) and its make/model...is it a WD/seagate/HP and the specific model...

The map was saved In the maps folder In the ut install C:\Users\hp\Games\UT2004\maps

I got my map back by the way... But It's so far back that It's not even worth the trouble In rebuilding It. Idk, maybe I can find an autosave of It somewhere.

I don't know how to check my HDD configuration. I'll check the model of my pc at somepoint. Don't want to be bothered to do It right now. Just want to see If I can find anything else on my map.
