This is all from the mouth of the one and only ST, who sadly can't post himself so he asked me to post for him.
This system would also allow ONS players to get a better idea of what maps are out there and what constitutes a good map. Also I am not saying simply remove some of the maps. No I think some can actually be salvaged with some slight work. For example, Nevermore TANKMEUP could be saved if some of the tanks were actually taken out. As it stands there are 9 DIFFERENT vehicles on that map that can 1 hit a player. Not 1, not 2, not even 3 vehicles but 9. Now if anyone actually understands game balance then they will know that there is a very nice balance between vehicles and foot skills in UT. Vehicles will kill people on foot most of the time but there is still a chance of a person on foot killing a vehicle. With super tanks like the minotaur and the tsunami(???) with more than 1000 health , there is no chance a player on foot has a chance. Couple that with the fact that there are how many PPC tanks, Scorpion tanks, Badgers, Ion tanks, etc the player on foot has no chance of doing anything, and believe me I have tried to be effective on foot on such a map. A map such as this does not promote healthy game play. In fact, it promotes player stagnation as is very obvious when you see players who rack up the score on tankmeup maps are nothing more than cannon fodder on a regular map. The solution then is to create a transition for these people by removing some of the super tanks from Nevermore tankmeup. For example, replace the hammerhead with cicadas, remove the ion tanks all together, toss out the lowbreaker as no one ever uses that piece of shit, and remove one of the PPC tanks per side.
Mind you the above is just my thoughts for one map. Other maps could be fixed by fixing weapons locker loadouts and vehicle placements. So keep that in mind.
Indeed Toxic and I had a conversation about the server. As it is now, Toxic said there are roughly 70 maps on the server. This is entirely too many and I can say, without having seen the map data, that there are at least 40 maps that are probably never touched in a month. That being said the map list needs to be pruned seriously so as to not overwhelm the players with so many choices that they cannot figure out what to pick. Ultimately you would want to have a map list of no more than 20 maps for the players to be able to chose from. This would be step one. Step two would be to identify 5 or 6 maps that are staples of the server. Masterbath, Dreamus2, CaptainGordons, etc. These maps would remain on the server all the time unless the community voted them off. Step three would require a small amount of work once a month by an admin. This would require the admin check the map statistics and see what maps are the most popular and remove maybe 5 of the top 15 maps played for the month. ANY 5 of these top 15 maps, aside from the permanent maps, would be subject to removal. In their place, 5 new maps would be placed on the server for that month. After about 5 or 6 months of this we would have a good idea of which of the new maps the players on the server actually like. This in turn would allow for a very concise list of maps that could be kept on the server at all times.DW_ToxicWaste wrote: I actually had a conversation with ST about tweaking some maps. Still ST
Weighted voting does not work as thinnk about how easy it is to rack up points with say the ION tank on Masterbath. That does not really reflect skill at all and one run for even a noob can equate to high points. I would not use this system at all.

You might want to point out that the only way to claim your winnings in said competition is to post the map change wanted in this thread.WailofSuicide wrote:I propose a new challenge.

Oh, and nny, I thought about it, and... I lost interest. Please see avatar.
DAMN! I lose.
nny wrote:I disagree. I unlike ST when point raping actually take and build nodes providing strategic forward defense and support. The simple fact is if you want to stat rape... first you have to control the map. So it suffices to say that those seeking simply to stat pad will in fact fill support roles far better than noobish players.
In fact most noobish players will likely accidently work against their team by wasting valuable resources such as vehicles, kegs, dd, and special weapons on targets of low priority.
I mean I understand you have your pre-conceptions and you have drawn them likely from a correlation. What I am saying is your correlation does not match up to your assumed causation and that my paradigm may fit your needs better than you realize.
Consider it. Roll it around on the tongue... take some time. Sleep on it. Get back to me when you feel you've given it some good deep healthy thought.
That's all I ask.
Okay I thought and slept on this, and this is what I thought...
:umno:
It still comes to me that players with lesser scores are treated as if they were a 3rd class. If they find a kegoHealth or a Goliath, they are welcomed to use it. I can't stop their teammates from yelling at them if they get the tank stuck inside a rock, but I don't want to further reduce their playing experience simply because they never get to see the map they've been voting for the pass week.
Later on the night, my mind started to drift towards the fact that math homework is due this Monday, and I need to continue working on that. Then I planned out my schedule for the following day, but before I get started on my schedule for today, I had to make my 1000th post :P
And it wasn't long before I started to forget what I was thinking, and then I must of fallen asleep.

Im with ST and nny on this topic... ON this note I would advise that we delete some maps (ones that do not get played at all) and change the ones that offer little strategy in as much as jumping in a overpower tank requires skill
If we don't delete them maps thats fine but if we can i will love toxic forever and ever and ever.
BTW PM me or post in the scrim thread I posted about so we can pew pew some lazers for old times sake.
