The funny thing is KK, you sounded great on my end. I could not tell a difference between this, vent, or in game. Someone was really quiet last night, I could not remember who. That was the only thing I noticed.

I like the Vent quality too, but you really can't argue with a somewhat free service.

I changed all the codecs to Speex 25.9 which is a much higher quality codec. The difference is quite noticeable, and it didn't seem to affect gameplay too much.

Our server is located in Vancouver, Canada which isn't exactly a hop, skip and jump from the midwest. So maybe that's part of the issue? I'll be tweaking things on it in the next few days to get the optimal quality out of it. I still have a lot of reading to do.

While your connected goto Connection-> Server Info that will give you an idea of how much bandwith your using up. Vent is a bit more bandwith and cpu heavy. For a few reason the most unobvious one is that it uses the tcp protocol. Even when you use a high quality GSM codec or speex codec, i still find the sound a bit grainy compared to vent.

I know 6l0 clan uses speex 25.9 and it actually sounds pretty clear. Another setting which i dont see control over that i know is available in ventrilo is the input voice capture quality. 22khz is optimal, but 44 is best. If your paying for amount of bandwith watch the server info closely.

I didn't bother making this offer before because Bryan & BCVisin were so quick. I can put up a TS2 server with a rather large bandwidth allotment at the following IP: 64.142.97.82 which is in Northern Cal. Let me know if this is a better location for it and I can get it set up. Admitedly it sits on a 10Mbps FD port but it should still suffice for our little troupe.

Snaggle.

Hey, Bryan! When did you change it to Speex?? I got on a little late last night, it was a bit before 9p Central. Did you change before or after that?

In all my pinging and tracert's I found one of the cogentco.com machines here in Dallas is consistenly dropping 33% of packets...grrrr.....one more thing to deal with. I ran at least 25 tracerts from last night to now and it hit that way every single time.

Tracing route to sva.bcvisin.com (216.139.229.247):
Hop ms loss address
1 23
2 24
3 24 205.198.6.137 (fe9-26.as.la1daltx.aleron.net)
4 24 154.54.2.138 (p10-0.core01.dfw03.atlas.cogentco.com)
5 24 33 154.54.6.62 (t4-2.mpd01.dfw03.atlas.cogentco.com)

Totally agree with Namu...free is always good! Let's keep on tweaking on it. Bryan you're doing great! And Snaggle...now we have a plan B (just in case!)! Excellent!

Quite likely....I'm realllly not very happy with my ISP at the moment, seems like I have to complain about 50 times before they do anything...planning on chucking them as soon as I'm able and getting FIOS in here!

Someone once told me..."ya can't make chicken soup with chicken sh**"....and I think that pretty much describes how I feel about cogentco and my ISP!

I have tried other Voice over Ip kinds of Software way before I heard about Ventrilo .. and to tell the true and as my very personal opinion .. ill stick to ventrillo Untill the end of times.. -- For me theres just not a piece of software better.. when about Voice Comunication Isues.. and this is for so so so many reazons!!!..

actually guys! A vent Server is pretty cheap .. If you go and try one out on this company with up to 8 differente locations to set it up (recomend Dallas .. for Geographical reazons and very good networks) .. and you can see the prizes well is really cheap .. with only 11.99 a month youll be getting hell lot of bandwith thus very nice high qty sound .. for up to 25 conections!.. -- 15 user is only 8.99 buks /month--

well ..this is not my job but Visit typefrag.com

come on SVA's .!!! let go just some of that grose green thing that grows in your wallets and join all toguether and set this up!! . ..

Deff Free is better.guys . but.. - You know what they say Good things , cost good amounts ..< or something like that.. anyways its true..

Okay guys! Here's what I'd like to do....

If Bryan and BC can get the tweaks settled in on TeamSpeak...we continue to use that...free is good.

But....::deep breath::...if things don't go that way, I would be williing to pay for a Vent server for us SVAs to use. After reading aLpHa's post, I went and checked out typefrag.com. For $11.99/month we can have 25 of you mugs on there at once. I think you all are worth it! And besides...we still need whatever teensy tiny advantage we can get in the scrims! :compress:
