Nice looking map list, can't wait for this new server.
We should think about potentially changing up some maps as far as the points-to-win it takes. I think generally speaking people prefer 3 points unless it's something like ChainIsile, Bitchslap, or Dreamus.
Speaking of Maps.

The issue of confusion was raised with differing goalscores. Do you think that's an issue?
If I go to 3 server wide, have to remove dramus, chain, etc. 5 rounds...ugh
If I stick with 2, we have quick rounds which leads to players leaving.

Correct me if im wrong but nice maps and less lag is not gonna keep the crowd in your sever. On the last few night (near midnight), i try to get on spam viking and all i see is 3 to 5 people playing. I see most of you like that invasion thing but plz all go play in spam viking like 1 or 2 matches to bring more ppl in.

I think there's potential for confusion but I think people will figure out most of the 2pt maps easily enough.ToxicWaste wrote:The issue of confusion was raised with differing goalscores. Do you think that's an issue?

Well the last couple of nights the master server has been down, so that has not helped. There's only a very few servers in the server browser.krypton wrote:..................... :sad1: :sad11:............................

To prove that people don't "favorite" their servers, Titan, which still shows in the browser somehow, and usually has no players after 10 or 11pm EST due to time differences, was FULL with 32 players, 90% of which had over 150 ping. Which means people still rely on the master browser to find games. People desparate to play with other people were putting up with 150+ pings to the UK to play with others.
As for the invasion server, you cannot TELL people what to play. Sure it hurts the numbers, but you can't force people to play here. All I can do is my best to proivide a fun environment. I'm not, and never have been about telling people where to play, and how to have fun.
This game is three years old now. You have to find fun where you can. ONS is getting stale for a lot of people. You can't blame them.
Nice maps and less lag will not help in the next week. But in the next month +, and going forward to 2007, it will help. People will subconsiously get to feel the server is really good, and will start to look for us first.
I have made a mistake however which has probably cost us a good number of players. I believed for a while that maps needed to be "proper" ONS maps by some definition. In my zeal to get proper maps, and to "properize" maps, I forgot that a lot of people just want to drive levi's and kill stuff and have FUN. To that end, I have added several maps which previously did not pass muster. These maps may not be balanced, the lockers may not be tweaked. Some people may make fun of them. But if people have fun on them, I DON'T CARE.
I forgot what made us great in the first place. Run maps that people like and have fun with and let all the purists be damned.

Do you think lowering the round time to 10 minutes, and raising the goalscore to 3 points would be a wise thing to do? Then even if it goes 5 rounds, it will still be under 1 hour total.WailofSuicide wrote:I think there's potential for confusion but I think people will figure out most of the 2pt maps easily enough.ToxicWaste wrote:The issue of confusion was raised with differing goalscores. I wanted to make a comment on of this quote which I totally agree on.
I had in the past when the server was stuck on Torlan I have changed the map to something more enjoyable for me and the bots and to get the server rotation started ( early in the day). I also have changed maps to more popular ones during late night times. I felt like i was the "map DJ " if you would, to keep the action going. I understand there were protests from that "vocal minority" I have always PM you what I was doing an why. Maybe in the future that might be considered again to keep things going.

If you raise the goalscore to 3 on all maps, then every map will be played twice no matter what. I'd rather see the rotation of maps get shorter and putting the goalscore to 1, that way no map gets played more than once, no matter what, with longer playing time of that map (20 min. vs. 10 min.), and shorter waiting time until that map can be played once again.....
...also, if you get "stuck" on a bad side, you have less incentive to play the map again with the same people making up your team....

Well Wraith, the problem is really trying to prevent maps from ending early and often, and in turn causing people to leave.
Nothing attracts a crowd, like a crowd.
I illustrated this in another post and I'll give you the cliff notes here.
People leave at the end of maps. If we have 32 people on the server, and the map ends, we'll lose 8 people. The next map goes on for 20 minutes. That's long enough for 8 more people to see 24 people on the server, in the browser and they'll join. Play a 3 minute map, and you get no more people joining, and 8 more people leaving. You see where this is going if you get a few quick maps in a row.
So the idea is to make a map run a minimum of 10 mins or so. With a goalscore of 2, and a stacked team, the map is over in 2 minutes and by nature, people drop. If it is a goalscore of 3, hopefully you will get a couple of more people to join or the other side has a better plan, and the match is a little better and takes a little longer.
