problem here is some people totally misinterpret interest and willingness to participate/help with bugging/nagging/pressuring or whatever you wanna call it....

btw pulp is expressing his ideas, using his right to speak aloud to the forum (i think its called freedom of speach in NOT-dictatorship regimes)

hacker is not noob...dont under-estimate him....
thats what this very situation tought us (or the majority of people)...
not like i'm paying respect to the hacker or something....

get that noob hacker
The noob hacker that probably couldn't be bothered to hack the server anymore, and wouldn't care if the server came back up under a new identity.

It'll take you two minutes to put the server back up under a new identity and to see if the hacker is still a threat, given that a week has passed since the server was brought down.

You don't know the identity of the hacker, we do. And believe me, this is far from being over, so why don't you just take a chill pill while we are fixing the problem PROPERLY instead of just duct taping it like you suggest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6pqNHYZ6ts)

I'll say the same thing I've mentioned to like 3 or 4 other people regarding to changing server name/ip.

Changing the server name wont do a thing.

Regarding to ip:
There are very few servers that run unique mutators (such as MonsterAssaultRPG). When queried, the server browser displays such information such as rpg mutators, rpg stats (such as level cap), and monster assault version. This kind of information is displayed regardless what ip address you're using.

Changing the ip isn't that difficult, but there's several things you'll have to setup to get the redirect, administration accounts, and misc things (such as GameTracker) to link up together. I don't think it's worth my time to do that for a one-night play.

Want me to change the mutator information? Sure I can change it. But something as simple as a class-name change will require me to change all classes that depends on that mutator. For example, if I were to change the rpg mutator, I would have to change the gametype (for the rpg scoreboard), monster packs (since monsters have elemental resistances), assault mapper tools (for goodies such as set level limiter actions), and the rpg expansion. Each of these packages could have about 50-600 classes. I honestly don't feel like going through 300-3600 files just for a name change. But why stop here? I'll have to change other properties. The gametype needs a name change, other mutators needs a name change (monster threat mutator, ons vehicle fix).... Maybe there's a need to change most of the maps, too.

Once again, migrating the server or applying aliases is not worth the work for a temporary fix.
The difference between successful people from others is
not in the lack of strength,
not in the lack of knowledge,
but rather in the lack of will.

So there we have It kid's, we all understand you're giving idea's to try to help out.
But as Ant JUST said In his rather surprising list of chores he would have to do In order to do a ONE night fix.
Changing IP and name won't do anything, just a waste of VALUABLE time.

Plus like Franky has already stated, the hacker will NOT back down for any reason, he will keep coming and coming until he Is satisfied with himself(which Is In no time soon going to happen).
It's either fight back and beat him, or the alternative. Which Is exactly what none of us want.

So thank you for your suggestions, but next time someone say's that It wouldn't work and that things are being done already to fix the issue.
Just leave It be :P

Sorry If I have angered or annoyed anyone In this unfortunate disagreement.

Tell us his/her address and we will pay him/her a visit :spunch:

but seriously, can't you just write an email to his/her ISP so that they cut him/her off the internet?
I made an AM character just to be able to use electromagnet in safe spots with 500 adrenaline and rejuvation weapon +5

+1000

its not about that, he can get a new ISP within the next days and do the same thing, or go to an internet-cafe....
its about commiting an internet crime of some kind (i am not aware of the internet laws, domestic and international), so since that would be the case, i m sure there would also be authorities that enforce the laws in cases reports were made for hacker's attacks...

dont know how they investigate these cases, how they prioritize them, how they enforce internet laws, how long it takes blah blah blah....

btw, you know the hacker's ID, sure you do know his reasons behind his attacks...

from what I came to realize so far is that.... you know how this all started, it seems to me like a personal vendetta (war) between the hacker and ClanDW's staff team, and seems nobody will stop (at least not the hacker)...cant tell if hacker has also other motives...

and you dont strike me as people what would fight back in a sneaky way...meaning that I believe you follow the righteous legal way to resolve this matter...

Relax, look at the bright side, you don't have to play with adidaz or whatever his name is since his 3523985239857239th ban

clearly.

Having the toy your parents fixed for you, then breaking it again two seconds later sucks, and I've experienced it first hand. (You will be mourned forever, Michelangelo. :scry:)

I DON'T want a repeat of that, especially for a game like ME. I'd rather wait 3 Easters and not have another server crisis for a good 5 years, then have it back for a week, then finding out it's been hacked again. Just my two cents.

@nt's reaction when he is informed by the admin that his favorite server would be returning...
