UT3 Requirements
Minimum System Requirements
* Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista
* 2.0+ GHZ Single Core Processor
* 512 Mbytes of System RAM
* NVIDIA 6200+ or ATI Radeon 9600+ Video Card
* 8 GB of Free Hard Drive Space
Recommended System Requirements
* 2.4+ GHZ Dual Core Processor
* 1 GBytes of System RAM
* NVIDIA 7800GTX+ or ATI x1300+ Video Card
* 8 GB of Free Hard Drive Space
********************************
I find the reccommended system requirements interesting. The CPU is a pretty powerful requirement. Non overclocked, that is a E6750 ($195 @theegg). I assume the comparable AMD chip is in the same price range. That is a pretty powerful processor.
1GB of ram can be had for $40 or cheaper these days.
Tomshardware lists the following for the 7800GTX or higher:
8800 GTX, 8800 Ultra
8800 GTS HD 2900 PRO, HD 2900 XT
7950 GX2 X1950 XTX
X1950 XT, X1900 XTX
7800 GTX 512, 7900 GTO, 7900 GTX X1900 XT
7800 GTX, 7900 GT, 7950 GT X1800 XT, X1900 AIW, X1900 GT, X1950 PRO
That x1300 has got to be a typo.
The 7 series Nvidia cards are hard to find. You can get an X1900GT for $100 and a X1950Pro for $130.
It looks like the processor may be doing quite a bit of work this time around.

Who called it baby! (I was pretty close)
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
What these specs tell me is that the main game thread is still doing the bulk of the work, and you probably will not get away with a low clocked dual core (i.e. 1.6 or 1.8). And from a client perspective, a quad core is useless unless you are running a bunch of stuff in the background.
Looks like I will be able to get by on my machine for a while.
As for the server...well that's another story altogether.
But now, I am finially getting excited

Well, I seem to remember EPIC saying that quads will help out, just not as much as going to a dual. I guess it probably depends on the helper threads and how many of them there are.
I have a sneeky suspicion that the single player mode is going to be much more intensive vs. multiplayer mode, which is why we have been delayed.
Physics... I can't imagine trying to sync all of that data up over a LAN much less a WAN. Just running the AEGIS demo app drives my C2D to 100%.

Shouldn't you be in school or something??? :compress:ACY wrote:Looks like my cpu will do just fine and I can scrape by on my dual 7600 gt's until I can purcahse a better graphics card in the next year or so.
Yeah, that is the only upgrade I have to make now that I OC'ed my CPU. I won't touch the CPU until we get more hard data of C2D vs. C2Q. Right now I am running it at 2.8, so I should be good to go. And I think I still have some more headroom if I want to deal with the extra heat.
So, the question becomes what video card??? There is still not a good midrange card out there at the $200 price range.

Playing hooky??
By useless, I mean that is completely not necessary. Sure, if you have more cores it would spawn more threads, but my guess is that it would spawn threads that would take <5% utilization of that core. A case of diminishing returns.

Yeah, the most recent thing I could find was from the IRC chat:
• eX`LiMPAN: Will UT3 use all four cores on a quadcore CPU?
MarkRein[Epic]: From what I understand the yes it will scale to four cores. That's why you'll see the Intel logo on the box :)
However, at this point, I pretty much just ignore anything Rein states. ;)

- so my 3.2 Ghz (OC) fx-57 will cut it ? Im going to wait to see if the 8800's vCards are a good choice from people who already have one , and go for it after the demo release - Im not going dual or quad, untill those sell cheaper and the frequency from factory is at least 3.0 ghz - Im used already to the light speed of my Fx , since I can run it at 3.4 Ghz in most applications, just not UT that's why I keep it at 3.2 - but that's fast , at least to me and theres no way im going back into the 2000's herz and I dont care if it's 4 or 8 or 16 cores -
