Solid Gold, baby

UT3 should be coming soon with a new gametype, improved vehicles, and MORE PLAYERS! Death Warrant will be there with hardware to spare!

Not to be negative or anything (well, maybe a bit), but I cannot imagine that they fixed all of the issues everyone was having the last couple of weeks with the beta demo.

What does "ship in North America" mean? Does that mean ship to retailers, or does that mean it will be ready on the 19th? That always confuses me.

Also, maybe I am being overly optimistic, but is it possible that the UT3 beta demo was an early build of the game, or unpolished build of the game that they band-aided for those of us crying for a demo, and that the finished game is much more robust? Just a thought :tard:

Also, you are talking about a company that put out a game that had a flying levi. Does it seems to be a building pattern of "getting it out there" and then patching it?

I missed the flying levi. What was that about?

Shipping should mean that you can buy it that day.

I missed it too, but Toxic was telling me one night in vent that when UT2004 first came out, there was a glitch that let the levi fly around the map. They later fixed it in a patch release.

Stylin... Wonder if it still handled the same or if it could actually move.

AFAIK (I wasn't around then either), you could deploy the Leviathan and, if you did it right, it would attach to the top of a flying vehicle. So basically you'd have a deployed Levi moving around at Raptor/Manta speeds.

Schaweet..

You would think that they would have learned their lesson about bringing in real gamers who want to exploit every little thing to do testing.

And that's the whole problem in a nutshell right there! They think that they are the epitome of gamerdom...and us plebes don't have a clue.

Wail gets the cookie. You could "attach" a raptor to the levi as it was deploying by parking it next to it in a certain spot. I could probably replicate it if I had a few shots at it.

There is a lot going on here, it's not just about Epic and what they want to do. I think it has more to do with Midway applying the pressure to realease in time for black Friday. And I think it was the pressure that Midway applied ages ago which forced us to go without ONS and be stuck with a hybridized WAR gametype (which I have a bad feeling about because just like they say in that Loverboy song, Pig and Elephant DNA just don't splice.)

More than ever I believe that a WAR map was not included in the demo because it was just not ready even for Beta testing. So let's face it, WAR is going to be a nightmare of bugs and glitches. BUT, Epic has always been good about fixing bugs (at least the ones THEY want to fix) and I have no doubt they will continue in that tradition with their (usually) well developed patches. Gameplay bugs are merely a spit in the ocean.

But the problems are much deepeer here than people realize. There are PROFOUND FUNDAMENTAL issues with server hosting which will cause this game to be stillborn. In Epic's (or Midway's) decision to tie in so closely with Gamespy, and with their poorly developed process on the server side, it has become all but impossible for large GSPs to sell servers for UT3. The overhead required in setting up a server has gone through the roof. The terrible file structure, the use of different accounts, the non-control over port usage, the lack of a functioning -multihome command. These are fatal issues which if not resolved prior to release will cause this game to fade into obscurity almost immediately. GSPs cannot make a business case for hosting UT3 servers. UT3 breaks their control panel software. UT3 causes them to make many manual steps to get a functioning server. UT3 uses way more resources than we were led to believe. UT3 cannot be "partitioned off" and kept separate. Where's the business justification? There is none.

Unless something is done, and right now, this game is doomed.

That is what I am worried about. A couple of weeks ago I was worried about not have it pre ordered. Now, I am contiplating whether I am going to buy it or not. I think that I am going to wait and let everyone else be the guinea pig. And this is coming from someone who just dropped $270 for a new video card solely for this game.

Looking at TWL, TAM is dominating UT2k4. Nothing is even close. I wasn't around in the glory days, but there are only 8 "active" teams in 3v3 ons ans 12 in 6v6 ons. It is kind of sad that UT99 is doing just as well. Looking at CoD dominate is kind of sad. Ironically AA has lots of participants as well. Lots of participants, actually.

Well, the Orange Box has already been put on the list.
