Hardware requirements for UT2007?
Does anyone know what the hardware requirements for the upcoming UT2007 is going to be? Will there be Linux support? Will a 6800 be enough?

There will be Linux support almost for certain; because of how BAD Windows Vista is going to be for gaming purposes (2007 on Vista will need ~3gb of RAM) there will have to be a way to play it on reasonably-powered computers.
By the way, UT2004 runs pretty nice on a P3 running Slack, I hear. I should try it on a spare box, but I actually have a good computer. ;)

Doing that would only take away from the impressive eyecandy that UT2007 presents.

As for UT2004 in Linux. It runs as fast and at times a slightly faster than windows (modified FC4 install). The only issue i have with UT2004 is with the audio output on certain maps. The audio will start to skip. I have traced the problem down to a cheap built-in sound card on the motherboard (Analog Devices "AD1981B" AC97 DSP). I'm sure if I upgrade the sound card, the problem will go away.

Have you tried useing the diffrent audio interfaces (ie:alsa, esd, ect)?jrv2kgt-s wrote:Sorry for the delayed response.Purity_the_Kitty wrote:There will be Linux support almost for certain; because of how BAD Windows Vista is going to be for gaming purposes (2007 on Vista will need ~3gb of RAM) there will have to be a way to play it on reasonably-powered computers.

Battlefield 2 can use up to 2 gigs of memory easily, and its recommended if you play it alot. I think i read vista will need 512mb to run, 1 gig recommened for vista. 4 gigs expected by gamers at the end of 2006 doesnt seem out of the question.
OpenAL looks to be the only supported sound API for UT2004 in Linux. I know the problem has something to do with the sound buffer not being refreshed as often as it should. I started looking trough various documentation to see what my options were for using a different sound server but to no avail. Right now I’m at the point that the noise doesn’t bother me anymore. To me it's just background noise untill someone chats on the VoIP channel.DW_Hornet wrote: Have you tried useing the diffrent audio interfaces (ie:alsa, esd, ect)?

As for the memory and processing aspect, I'm pretty good in that department. My configuration is:
Server name: raptor
Tyan Thunder K8W
4GB DDR400 running at DDR333 (8-512MB sticks)
Dual Opteron 242's
6800 128MB AGP
3ware 9500S 480GB raid5
2-36GB WD Raptor drives in raid1
I’m currently evaluating weather I should pick-up 2 dual core Opterons, but I think that would be overkill.
