Maybe someone really gifted at computers could answer this.

Talk about anything UT2004 related

Some of you guys know me very well. Most of you know that I play alotta MM and download it everyday into one of the computers in the school lab. I was wondering if anyone knew what was needed in the game itself in order to play online. I want to place the UT2K4 folders needed to play online into a removable disk so I don't have to loaded the disc everytime I play.

Thank you

Why don't you just copy the C:\UT2004 directory to your removable drive?

I don't think that there are any registry settings involved, but I may be wrong...

I know you will need to add this value to the registry at least.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004\CDKey

CDKEY is a String Value and it should be your CD key.

There are others, but I don't know if they are needed.

Hey Nammy, I'm no registry expert so I'm no help there. I do re-install the game pretty often because that's just how I am. I think what I would try is to install the game on the removable drive the first time. If the game and windows will allow you to do this then next time you just have to install it over the same directory. The install will again ask for your CDkey and begin installing only this time it wont actually copy anything to the drive if it is already there. So now the install would have taken something like 10 to 15 minutes would now only be 1 minute which is mostly the time it takes to type in the CDkey. The install will enter the proper pointers in the registry and create icons and that sort of thing but the long copy process will be avoided because the files are already there. I've done this several times with the only difference being I've not tried it on a removable drive. My reasoning for this is the 100+ skins Nutcracker and Karma made me install will always be there without having to go through it all again. But that's a whole other issue.....

LoL, thanks guys. I forgot to mention my removable drive is only 1 gb. But I'll probably upgrade to a 10 gb once I find a good one. And yeah, I hope placing the UT2K4 on a drive will allow it to be played still.

A) Get a removable drive (flash drive, mp3 Player, burned dual layer DVD disc, ect...)
B) Use the ut2004 cd key changer available Here to enter the key.
C) Just launch ut2004.exe from the system folder to play the game. (you can probably create a shortcut and place it on the removable media also)

There's ways you can save it on the computer so you don't have to "install" it everytime. Each student should have their own HD space. Like where you save your word documents and stuff.

I wish that were the case, but we only get 512 MB per. The game is about 5.5 GB I believe
