Two ONS maps were announced recently

Report any issues or suggestions here. Intermittent lag happens, so don't report it unless it is excessive

I downloaded both of them, and they do look interesting. The last one mentioned should play well, and the first one, it looks pretty, and hopefully will play without too much lag....

I love my new avatar! I can't stop laughing!!!!

Map author is a professional map maker and it shows. Build quality is very high on this one (originally this was a tech demo rather than an ONS map) with no obvious errors that I could see in the botmatch I spectated. Problem is I'm not sure I care for the gameplay. It is a very large map so don't ever try walking between nodes. Also fairly bland visually despite the high quality of what is there. Could certainly hold 32 players but I'm not sure how FUN this map will end up playing.

There's a 7 page discussion thread concerning this map over on Titan's forums if you're curious to see the history and beta process for this map here:

Map should work fine for 32 players. Mapper obviously has talent as it is a very appealing map visually. Has some gameplay problems (overloaded nodes - each is very powerful with the rides that spawn there) but it's certainly worth a try.

I took a look at the other maps on the authors page given the quallity of this map. Sunrise we all should know by now (good map but needs different links - choke is terrible on this map) and RomanRoads I've recommended to you before. Of the others, I think I've seen you run PaintedDesert before and ONS-ConclaveCanyon as well as ONS-PolarIceField are both very well made maps that are too small for 32 players. Shame as I love the look for both of them, but they are just too small to try here.

Sorry guys, been real busy lately. I'm building a new server.

I'll have a look at these tonight.

Re: ONS Meadowland

Maybe it's just me but the mapmaker for this thing (DGUnreal) really rubs me the wrong way. Read over the thread in the Titan forums. He states at least once in every post, "I am a professional mapmaker" or some variation on it, and of course while he seems rather responsive to gameplay criticisms he's unwilling to bend on the most glaring problem with the map -- the terrain complexity. You'll note that everyone's major problems with the map revolve around map size (22MB, ouch) or playability/framerate.

The large file size can be attributed to the 512x512 textures.

At first I thought the same thing, but keep in mind that he never meant for this map to be used for public game play. When he introduced the map to both Atari and Titan forums he basically wanted to know what the players thought about the map. His goal was to turn it into a viable ONS/DM map. I'm not sure if you read all the threads but I feel that he handled the constructive criticism pretty good. In some instances he went out of his way to describe to the players what takes place during the map design process. I found it interesting and informative. Now you have to admit that "a_spec" took his opinions a little overboard.

All in all I think the map is nice. Yeah, the manta's do scrape going up the hills but if you follow the paths or jump every so often you shouldn't have an real problems. Gamers complain about the 22MB file size but you only download it once. :blackeye:
