Dual Screen Issue

Hey All,
With the little one on the way I had to turn my study into the nursery, so we put both computers on one desk out in the main room. This was good and bad, but the main pro is that I now have both monitors on my computer.
The issue I am having is that whenever I go into a game (mainly crysis, cod4, and ut2004) the smaller extended desktop screen either shrinks to the middle of the monitor, or goes fully black. I know that many of you told me before when I was playing that you use it to show your vent, etc. How do I go about setting it up so I can do this? I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit with a 22" WS and 19" reg screen. Thanks.

You need to be sure that the game you run is set to the default display size of the monitor you want to play on
or it will push objects over on the second screen.
IE. if the screen you are playing on is set for 1680x1050 the game must be set at this size or it will over flow on the next screen
even if the second screen is a different size. The game when you start it unless in a window will resize the screen to the game and
mess everything on the desk top up. I hope this helps. Its one possibility.

I just set mine to be a second monitor but do NOT extend the desktop to the other, then I just drag whatever I want to the other monitor.

Here is my setup Damnidge. Even though I have the extend the desktop box checked the game takes priority over my main monitor. Prior to starting a game I open up any programs and move them over to my 2nd monitor, Then I launch the game and play. The only way I can move over to my other monitor though is to minimize the game and go to the other monitor and make the change and then maximize the game again. Remember that when you move a program to the 2nd monitor it will always open on that monitor until you move it back to your main monitor.
Main monitor

2nd monitor

Hope this helps.

Cheap - thanks for the fast reply. I have set all my games to 1680 x 1050. I should have mentioned that before. So that is not what's doing it.
Damaged & BrainPan - My screen look identical to Damaged images here. I also have the "extend the desktop onto this monitor" checked. I will uncheck that and see if the problem persists.
Thanks for the fast help guys.

If i uncheck the extend desktop box in vista it disables the monitor feed and shots it off. It appears i must extend to it?

You also have to set it in your video card settings program ie. nview for Nvidia cards, because your card takes over in game and supperceds your windows setting. so make sure it is set properly there.

I can access "setting up dual monitors" by going into the control panel and then to nvidia control panel. While it is recognizing both monitors correctly, and showing the wide screen as the primary, it does not have anywhere to control the "extended desktop" brainpan spoke of.
I did notice today i don't have the issue while crysis is running, however it is still occurring with COD4.
Thanks for all the help so far.

Yeah sorry, seems mine is set to extended too in windows (XP though). In the Nvidia settings I have mine set to:
Configured independently from each other (DualView) --(under setup multiple displays - if you have these settings)
