Since alot of people recently tried to make me play a medic, this post main goal is for explaining the reason why I do not play the medic Class in Monster Mash.
Reason 1 : Challenge is my way!
I like my game hard. Since I play alot of TAM and ONS, I'm a realy competitive player and I like a good challenge. The "old style" medic was considered an "easy" class and I did own a 300+ "old style" medic level on another server and from what I heard, the "new style" medic in Monster Mash is even more powerfull then the "old style" one, making it even more easy to play. This is why I haven't started a medic on the Monster Mash server.... Yet.
Reason 2 : Using more then one weapon
The definition on spamming (Jinx you should listen and learn from this) is abusing something. In game, spamming is generally the abuse of a particular weapon, the abuse of voice chat abuse or the abuse of text chat. Now considering all my TAM experience I can say without any doubt that in UT2004 I learn how to use every weapons according the the adequate situation. In monster mash, I use 6 weapons : The mine layer, the shock rifle, the lg, the flak cannon, the mp5 and the link gun (only on luci wave). My average kills is around 600 at 200 lvl+ and the number of kills I got is generaly repartioned between those 6 weapons like this :
mp5 : 150-200 kills
mine layer: 50-100 kills
shock: 100-150 kills
flak: 150-200 kills
lg: 25-50 kills
link: 1-3 kills (luci!)
Now considering the medic generally use only one weapon, most time the mp5, we can say in a certain matter of event, that this class encourage "spamming", but i'm only talking in general. Of course a medic can use other weapon, but most of the time most medic use only one. Since this kind of "game style" do not exacly "match" my game style, this is why I am avoiding this class.... for now
Reason 3 : making people feal safe
Alot of player like when I enter a server, some saying : "Yeah Franky's here were saved!", or : "Now we can reach wave 16!". The WM "survival tactics" depend on 3 things : The energy flak +3, the globe and 6 deamers. For the AM it's the vorplal shock, the energy flak +4, the globe and the double magic modifier. If I can have those items on my WM and my AM I can affirm thaT there is 95% of chance that we will reach luci wave on maps like Cheapshot cavern, ackbals, deepViolet and spacejunck. I'm not talking about killing more monster here, just survive till wave 16. Now I know the medic "offensive" skills have been improved on Monster Mash recently, but the truth is when all the low level died and the Monster level become ludicrously high, a medic don't have any "survival tactics" in those hard map other then hide and pray, even with advance DR.
So all those reasons explain why I prefer AM or WM vs Medic.
Why I refused to play a medic

I got the reflex of the fly, now catch me if you can!
I thought with medic it's tougher to battle monsters because they don't have abilities as the other classes.DW_FrankyTheFly wrote:Reason 1 : Challenge is my way!

I guess I probably have a better opinion on this subject soon because after I'll finish maxed my WM on server 2 I will start a Medic. I'm curious to see how good I can be with a medic, so yes, everyonnne be prepared! Franky is gonna start a Medic on server 2 after my WM will be maxed, this is a promess!I thought with medic it's tougher to battle monsters because they don't have abilities as the other classes.

I understand what you are saying Frankie and agree with you. Your points outline the basic problems with the Medic class. Your first and third points (though they may appear somewhat contradictory) show the drop off point (or brick wall) that the character faces. Early on (both in the building of a character and early on in terms of waves in the game) the class is the easiest to use, but at some point you hit that wall and it becomes the hardest. Your second point shows the boredom factor. Using the same weapon all the time (spamming as you say) gets boring fairly quickly.
The medics aren't left with much solution to these problems though.
If you try to fix the first (as Wail has been attempting) they can easily become overpowered.
The second problem is caused/worsened by several factors, and the medic is often left with the mp5 as the only logical weapon choice. I could write pages on why this is true, but I think most people would agree/already know this. The solution to this IMO is resupply, but that's been hashed over and over and nothing has come of it.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who read binary, and everyone else.
4013 is only a FAD
And 2989? Well that's just BAD
Oh yeah, medic is easy to start. No pre-requesite skills to speak of really. But once you max your DR, DB, ADB, WS, and Health, (around 150ish right?) you're done. If you like the monsters, there is plenty, but really, what good are monsters?

thats not entirely correct, the key here is ammo bonus, that prism thingy or somthing reload 4 inbetween the waves,a little luck and some improvisation.sometimes u just pick up that vorpal ya need to keep going,4 the rest its the usual u do i think.but the truth is when all the low level died and the Monster level become ludicrously high, a medic don't have any "survival tactics" in those hard map other then hide and pray, even with advance DR.
just be creative,its fun(thats what i think,but who am i enyway :newb:  )
i also noticed recently that AM Class is not the only Class that can make all weaps magic, medic can do that 2.duno if this is a glitc/bug or eny thing.
just go to a weap locker, pick up some stuff, and if its standart or negitive,mm mwm it.next go to an other weap locker, and there is a good chance that u pick up some magic material, mayby somthing u find usefull,if not, just do the same thing again, and so on untill ya got what u want.
i think if u destroy eny old weaps with the mm mwm,the magic chance resets to de default value 4 the next time u pick up something.
smile :)

Sweet, if you're right Brain that mean I will get the challenge I'm looking for. Then it is decided, i will start a medic as my second character on server 2 as soon as my WM is maxed. RocketQueen will sure be happy hehehe.but at some point you hit that wall and it becomes the hardest.

Commenting as a player, not a developer, I believe that is the intended functionality. It gives you a chance to pick up magic weapons from a locker or weapon spawn. Once my AM picked up a vorpal shock on wave 1, the next game it could've been a shock of harm -2. I have found if I toss a magic weapon type that I don't want and pick up another weapon, after a couple tries all I get are plain ones. I believe that is intentional so you don't keep tossing shocks until you get a vorpal. :faroah:Jade wrote:i also noticed recently that AM Class is not the only Class that can make all weaps magic, medic can do that 2.duno if this is a glitc/bug or eny thing.

I agree with your tactics and attitude. I if played a medic, I'd also use resupply weapons/prism, weapons lockers, ammo pickups, ammo bonus, etc. to be able to use multiple weapons.

That is not glitch, whenever you pick a new weapon, you have a base chance of 40% to get a randomly magic weapon, good or bad. If the weapon you got is plain or magical without the *, then whenever you toss it, you will always get the same back because those are copyable. If you get a magic weapon with an *, if you toss it you have once again 40% of chance to get another magical weapon.i also noticed recently that AM Class is not the only Class that can make all weaps magic, medic can do that 2.duno if this is a glitc/bug or eny thing.

You're pretty wise Jade. That is correct, using a MWM on a weapon will reset the chance back to 40% only if you rolled a weapon with a *. If you roll a copyable weapon then you're stuck with it untill you rolled it again. Also, know that you can copy more then one weapon. The copyable weapon "stay" in the "memory" and can be obtain depending on the "order" you copied them via wep spawn or wep locker. Using the MWM on that weapon slot will also errase this "memory bank" so be aware.i think if u destroy eny old weaps with the mm mwm,the magic chance resets to de default value 4 the next time u pick up something.
Well that's good to know, that way I wont always be stuck with only one weapon when i'll play my medic obn server 2, tanks for the tactic tip.I agree with your tactics and attitude. I if played a medic, I'd also use resupply weapons/prism, weapons lockers, ammo pickups, ammo bonus, etc. to be able to use multiple weapons.

ach. whatever happens, although I respect your opinion, it seems to be in favour of another medic super-reduction (Which would kill Jon, trust me). The EWC is being discussed and probably will be fixed. This is the thing that alway puts medics above other classes. Players like Kronos, DevilMan and MrE are highly experienced with as good as maxed players. They do beat others on score. But they only get any other class's average, usually if we have Seven, ACY and MrE on (Just for an example) The scores are pretty balanced. But then, as you say if you dont like it dont use it :) same as super adren pills.
