master server issues, stats not working, fewer, and fewer people are playing it seems. The servers only seem full for a couple of hours, except maybe on the weekends. I remember when I played Mechwarrior years ago that I could find full 24/7 until they started to come out with new versions, and even that game died off. Even as little as 2 years ago there were more UT servers, and full ones. Now there are TWO that play other than Torlan.

What other 1st person shooters are out there that are popular?

COD maybe?

as long as there is one good server I'm happy. It'll die when it dies.

Here is a quote from an EPIC admin from the UT forums.

RE: Master Server: "Not looking good folks, there seems to be some deeper issues with the server. I'll let you know more as soon as I do."

From someone who spent at least an hour a day on Spam Vikings from 2005 to early 2009, the instant I played COD4 online I knew I could never go back to UT2004, at least in the same way. But then again I prefer tactical realism--one warning, however, is that the limited map pool can grow tedious.

I'm hoping that the online multiplayer for BioShock 2 coming out in January will be interesting at the very least. If you haven't played the first Bioshock, get it, play it, and tell me online dueling Big Daddies will not be the sickest thing since Swine Flu.

I agree once I played COD4 I just had a hard time going back to UT. As far as COD maps go there has been some talk on the TWL site that because of IW decision on COD4 MW2 they may add some maps to the game. Here are a couple of posts from the competition staff members. I assume these would be added for public and match play.

We will be discussing in detail what we need to do with COD4. I agree that we need some new things, most especially with the recent developments with COD MW2. Please keep the ideas coming guys.

Well start gathering some good custom maps to use and post them. Now keep in mind that they gotta be suitable for all gametypes along with being well made.

The UT Master Server issue is currently what's killing player numbers. I've had numerous people tell me that servers that were once in their Favorites list are no longer showing up. People are having to manually add server IPs every time they want to log on. It's quite the mess. Also, this is usually the slowest time of the year for server attendance. So, those two coupled issues are dragging the numbers down. Prior to this latest Master Server problem, Spam Vikings was pulling in a good number of people every night. I don't think UT is terminal. And I sure won't give up on it! It was my very first FPS....and I for darn sure won't give up my second seat in a 'Bender or my Tank Grrrl status either! ;D

True to a point, but when I was out of work nursing a back injury(2006-2008) I played ALOT, and player numbers still seem to have dwindled quite a bit since then.

I loved Mechwarrior. I ranked in the top 20 a few times. There was supposed to be a new one coming out, but legal issues are bogging that down.

I played COD4 a bit today, and here I am trying to double dodge, and well that doesnt work in COD4 lol. Force of habit. I like it, but I have an issue with getting motion sick playing that for some reason. I dont get that in UT. My issue with COD4 is that they need to do something about getting instantly killed spawning. PPL spawn right on top of each other, so when you respawn and take a step someone else is already RIGHT behind you.

BTW: Is MW2 an upgrade to COD4, or a whole new COD game?

Merc. you will not be seeing too many people purchasing MW2 for the P.C. check out this link:

Infinity Ward decided to go no dedicated servers for P.C. started their own IWNet which will be like console games. No thanks they can kiss my a@!. They just ruined clan and competative gaming. They are wanting to make as much money as possible and they want to charge as much as possible for DLC. They completly forgot why the game was so big for P.C. and who helped make them.

Can't wait, not long now. Also, I would like to mention that our MM3 server is beginning to become very popular. It is already one of the most popular servers on the net as far as UT3 is concerned and the number of players in whole is beginning to grow as well do to the community effort in repairing Epics mistakes. Drop in some time on the weekend and join us. I promise you'll have some fun.

Edit: Just so you know, we are having issues with the sentinels when the are destroyed, they may kick you do to a critical error in removing the destroyed sentinel from the map but usually if no one is using sentinels, you wont have a problem. We would remove them but... They are so awesome! Also, they don't always result in a kick... I know, we are working on it and it should be fixed soon.
