ONS-Creepy

Hello
I have been working on a map called ONS-Creepy. It is a map that features thick black fog, 27 nodes that build in 8 seconds (2x as fast as in maelstrom), and deadly pits and bear traps. It currently is in beta4 state, and all seems to be well. There are a few little bugs that need squashing, such as trees overlapping each other, or hovering above pits.

I suggest you play this map on your own for a few minutes, because the features may come a little surprising. We have tested it with 3 players and we had a LOT of fun. especially the unexpected deaths while fighting 1on1 were fun. The pits are easy to see, but you can dodge jump in them quite easily. The bear traps are a bit harder to see, but also harder to die in compared to the pits.
I do not know how it will handle with 32 players, but there should be enough room to move in. Prepare to expect lots of unexpected combos and flak balls.
Included with this map is some music that really adds some atmosphere. Even if you disable music normally, I suggest you start this map including the music found
here
Enjoy, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to post them.

I recommend this one. Its one of the most unique maps I've ever seen and should really give 32 players loads of gameplay.
EDIT: Hold fire. Just downloaded and tested. Has a high channel count (over 500) that would lag on the titan server but I am not sure about here. Titan is running:-
Processor: Opteron 250
RAM: 2GB
Disk: 2 x 80GB SATA
Connection: 100mbit
How does your kit compare with that?

Hey Gorz, we're running an FX-60 overclocked to 2.85. (opty 250s are 2.4, and use slower ECC memory) We can run some maps that Titan cannot run (Dreamus II for example) but I don't think it's THAT much difference.
Ikkuh, thanks for visiting and posting the link. Let me have a look at this on my local machine. If it does look good, would you mind if our local mapper Wraith has a look at optimizing it? He is quite good at it, and has enabled us to run several maps that ordinarily we would not be able to. He has ways of substituting features of a map with less costly ones. And I don't know any of the terminology, but he was quite ingenious in optimizing P3843 (or whatever it is). He realized that there was no airpower in that map and did something to the map after a certain height that reduced the load and increased FPS quite a bit.

TW, I have been optimising it already by myself. I have culled the trees, so they aren't a problem (fog does not seem to work good for that). I am also working on another beta featuring less movers for the bear traps (2 instead of 3), so that should reduce channel count as well by about 160. There will also be some more tweaks. I don't think that the channel count caused by the movers should be that big, but I do not know anything about channels and how they work. Beta 5 will have 160 less used ones.
Anyway, thanks for your help

Aim for 250 channels if possible. I know that sounds like a few, but when 32 people are all playing, shooting flak, skymines, dying, spawning etc it creates a whole load extra. Remember, lots of miniguns. They produce zero channels. Every flak shot produces 7. Rocket 3 etc. Miniguns are a high channel maps friend.

Ahh, what the hell. I threw it on the server sight unseen. Guys, let's get some feedback. Especially if it starts lagging the server.

Playing locally on my server with 31 bots, i was getting framerates in the mid-twenties. Hope it plays better on the server.
(I had dedicated server going, and ran UT2K4, then connected to it. [Lan connection] Dual CPU with 1 core dedicated to it, and my second instance of UT running on the second core [also dedicated] via Win2KLauncher.)

please, remove it from the server and update it with beta 5. It is more optimised and more server friendly.

oh and Wraith, this map doesn't have bot support (yet).
thanks

I saw that it didn't have bot support, but I still wanted a total of 32 bodies on the map just the same. Anyhow, the framerates I was getting was a bit on the low side, so I had some concerns there. The map does look like a fun map to play, at least its different in play style...
