Hey guys! Opinions please!! :flower:

I have a creaky old version of Corel Painter (like about 6.0). I'm sticking my toes in the map making waters again after a long hiatus and was wondering what some of you use in the way of software. Full blown Adobe Photoshop? Photoshop Elements? Something I've never heard of?? <quite possible!

It's been years and years since I needed to use paint programs in my work life, so any tidbits you could pass along would be most appreciated!

I have been using photoshop elements. However, I have been using texture files from freely downloadable sites. PE gets me enough of what I want without spending $500 on CS2.

I have done more work with Maya PLE for SMs than anything else.

I use an older version of Photoshop 7.0, not the CS2, as its not mandatory. There is a plug-in I used to make seamless tiled textures called "Real Texture Tools" its the one thing I use alot when needing a tileable texture as it does it in sizes the the map editor will want, i.e. 256X256, 512X512 etc.

Wrait...Do you know if that plug in will work with Elements? I know some of the ones for Photoshop do work.

And thanks, Zeus! I've got a line on a better price for Photoshop, but still a couple of hundred versus...what..maybe $50 (or less) for Elements is looking better all the time.

You could try out this free paint program.

I have no idea if the texture plug in would work on anything other than photoshop. If you send me the textures, I will give you multiple sized outputs of any texture you want to be made seamless. just e-mail me via my yahoo address.

I recommend The Gimp, which does have a Windows version despite being the premier Linux paint program. It is available at http://www.gimp.org for free. :)
