Any more news on hardware requirements???

UT3 should be coming soon with a new gametype, improved vehicles, and MORE PLAYERS! Death Warrant will be there with hardware to spare!

I am thinking about building a "gaming" machine, as my wife is starting to get annoyed with my addiction.

Right now, I am playing on a Athlon 64 3400 w/ 1GB Ram and an XFX 6600 256M DDR2 video card.

I will probably pull the video card out of there and put in the new one, since the wife does not need the dedicated card for browsing the web and homework.

And with the firesale on chips right now, I figured I could pick something up pretty cheap.

Any ideas?

You need dual core dual processors with 16gb ram ddr4, 2 7950 bfg with dual GPU,s on each card, 1050 watt power supply , and dont forget the physics card.....lol
DUCK! Oh wait guess I shoulda said that before I shot you huh?

Probably - I'm starting to think my guys are the only people who even think about efficient programming these days. "The users can buy better computers" is not a design plan...>_>

I have a pdf file here from a presentation one of the ut devolpers (tim sweeney) put together claiming there are atleast 250,000 lines of code for UE 3 engine. Your welcome to do the optimizations.

I think that if you buy the best CPU and mobo for now, and then once UT2007 comes out, you can get the fastest video card you can afford, that that would be one of the ways you could approach it. Mainly its going to be the video card that determines how well it will play, because you can have the fastest cpu around, but stick in a cheap videocard, and you won't be able to play it without having to use the lowest resolution and everything set to the lowest setting in graphic details.....

Yeah, I am not sure...

Right now I am torn between the AMD 4300 X2 or the C2D 6300. They both seem to be around the same performance and price. Obviously, I can get the AMD today. Or, I can wait and get the C2D and then maybe upgrade the chip at a later time. However, the C2D takes less power (to get the reduced power AMD, it looks like you are talking at least a hundred dollars increase).

I am definately keeping my video card for now. I have most of my settings on high with 1024x786 32bit color and I seem to do alright.. Probably in the 40-50 fps depending on the map. I was having a lot of difficulty a couple of nights ago, but that seems to have disappeared.

I am wondering if I should get a SLI motherboard. Plus, with AMD puchasing ATI, who knows what is going to happen with all of that. I am more of a fan of Nvidia than I am of ATI. Plus, if I want to run linux on it, then I am defiantely sticking with Nvidia.

Looks like it is time to draw up a spreadsheet!

If you really want performance NOW get the 6300 || 6400 c2d and oc it. I actaully think this will be a popular combo, maybe even the 6600 depending on how much the cache matters.

The ones with 4MB of cache look like they are essentially trumping everything. The 6300 and 6400 only have 2MB of cache (plus lower clock speeds) which looks like they are in the mid to upper range of the AMD's. Of course, now that AMD has slashed their prices, the prices are similar per performance. But, the C2D are using much less energy, which means less fans, which means less noise.

The extreme version has essentially blown everything out of the water, but it is a grand.

However, the 6600 and 6700 are beating just about everything AMD has except their flagship proc SOMETIMES. So, for $339 (6800) you can get a proc that beats out all of AMD 90% of the time.

But, I am thinking if I get the 6300 right now and upgrade it later, I should be in good shape. I don't remember if AMD is sticking with the sockets they have now, or if they are going to replace them next year. Intel looks like they are sticking with their sockets for a while. In fact, the C2D can go into some Pentium motherboards if the motherboard, get this, can lower the wattage!
