I was just thinking, what will happen to 2k4 when 2k7 comes out? 2k7, as Pomona expressed concerns over, might be too much for all but the top machines out there, forcing people to hang on to 2k4 for a while.
I agree. I bet a lot of the players in UT2K4 have socket A systems or older socket 378 systems maxed out, that are already challenged a bit with 2K4's requirements. In my case, I bought a socket 754 thinking it would expand, not knowing the impending doom socket 939 had in store for me. While it is possible for me still buy a wicked sick AGP 8x card that will run UT2007 no problem, I find a moral wrong in having to pay the same price as it's PCIx16 counterpart. If they were to suddenly make the AGP cards decline in price as processors do, then hopefully by the time UT2007 rolls around I can get a higher quality, 256 meg, 256-bit mem interface card for a price that makes it worth it to stick to my socket 754 architecture.
All-in-all, I am hoping the fact that my current radeon pro based card is at 128 megs, 256-bit interface, and 8 pixel pipelines will allow me to run UT2007 on low settings across the board. Then, *hopefully,* all I will have to do is switch out my (2) 512 ram sticks for (2) 1gb sticks to have 2gb of single channel ram.
If not, then I may have to consider switching out my mobo for a socket 939 to get the dual-channel ram, and then get a PCI x16 card. We'll see! :compress:

Cheers, Damnidge
I think a success or failure of UT2007 is determined by the birth of a new Video card can play Unreal Warfare. (I have no interest in Deathmatch) Many people cannot construct SLI. Yes, me too. My motherboard has a only AGP x8. It is foolish to buy two expensive VideoCards.
If success , It is very gratifying. However , Irrespective of UT2007, I want DW continuing existence of Onslaught. cause I cannot buy new PC for the time being. I think UT2004 will survive when UT2007 comes out.
The biggest problem is myself. If I can play UT2007Warfare and good playground in Japan.
I will stop playing Onslaught. But it is a future event for long time being too.

You don't need a new PC the PS3 will play ut2007 fine (better according to Epic) and at $400 its alot cheaper than a new video card. I know what your thinking "fps on a console sucks" true, but the new ps3 will be keyboard and mouse ready and so will ut2007.
I would NEVER buy a console! Can you construct new maps with a console? Can they play and download new maps not included with the game? Can consoles display in high resolution?
Never, Never, Never. Consoles are toys compared to a pimped out rig. And a high end computer system can do so much more than games. Who wants to sit in front of a tv set to play games?? Not me... I got a comfortable desk and chair, large screen, high resolution.
Some people like me are real computer enthusiasts, we understand more about the computers, and its our hobby. Some people will spend tens of thousands for a home theatre rig with plasma tv etc. Its all well and good. Consoles are good for some people, just not for me.

I think the new ps3 will have that capability. Since maps are relatively small files I am sure you can store them on memory card
the PS3 is HiDef
as for consoles being toys you should read this article on the cell as a "toy" and its capacity versus an intel chip in regards to graphics.

HAH...ok you must be 37!t3 H@xor. Sorry I digress. Some people like me are real computer enthusiasts, we understand more about the computers, and it our hobby.
uhhh greatSome people will spend tens of thousands for a home theatre rig with plasma tv etc. Its all well and good.
Obviously you are thoroughly schooled in the architecture of computer systems and I am just a peon. I cant wait till you have to upgrade your system, ie new mobo, new sli card (possibly two), new drives (no more ide), etc etc.
I will get my ps3 with high def and internet connectivity, a solid state memory card (can you imagine the load times versus the access time of a HD), and like I said better performance than a PC as quoted per Epic. All for $400.00. WOOHOO!
Oh wait there is more. The PS3 will have a HD peripheral in which I can load linux to the new system. A tweaked Sony linux. So wait I can have a computer that has better graphics performance (per Epic Games) than your computer for half the price? Your right you are the wise guru, I am just a lowly peon. Thank for the education!
:laughing5:
I also think that nvidia is putting a new GPU not yet availableto the public in the PS3, supposed to be groundbreaking. I bet it will be more expensive then the cards they have out now. I could be wrong about that..
