Maps for Project: Map Change

OK, instead of giving you a list and tell you what's wrong with them, I'm just going to put them in a directory under the download section. Pick a map you think you might like to work on, and then we'll start talking about it.

Most of the maps there have bad FPS. Wraith in particular is VERY good at optimizing maps, and if you'd like to learn a thing or two about it (and he's willing to work with you) I suggest you grab one of those maps, and Wraith on TS or vent, and have a go at it.

So go to http://www.clandw.com/download and go to the Map Project folder and pick a reclamation project.

Actually I will make special mention of a couple of maps because I am readily familiar with them.

1. http://www.clandw.com/Download/index.ph ... E-32pB.exe

This map is perhaps the most gorgeoous map I have seen. Wraith poured his heart into optimizing this map at my request. He did a masterful job. Unfortunately, the game play is not there. It may be just TOO big. Does it need more nodes? Does it need to have areas cut out to make it smaller? I especially ould like to hear Urtho's input on this map and if it is salvageable.

2. http://www.clandw.com/Download/index.ph ... eRedux.exe

Again, another very pretty map with gameplay that stinks beyond belief. I don't think it's a simple as a node layout change.

3. Dreamus - Yes, some of you hate it, but it is what it is. I would like it to be largely left alone with the exception of the following:

A. Redeemer Removed
B. Exploit fixed (PM me if you need to know)
C. RL (10 ammo) added to base weapon locker
D. Flak (10 ammo) and AVRiL (5 ammo) added to primaries

And I know Wraith did some optimization on this map, but it also had some changes which were unpopular (such as taking out the health packs) so I think if we could look at optimization again that would be great.

Right now these are the maps that are sitting on my HD as potential fixer-uppers:

ONS-Mothership
ONS-RaptorSkies
ONS-ViperLake
ONS-Cosimi-SE

I haven't played any of the above maps online though, so I am going to have to do some playtesting and gauge what I feel needs to be done with them.

Later tonight I am going to take a look at

ONS-ConcealedRespite2

And see what can be done for that map. I am not sure if ConcealedRespite2 is the same map as was on the server previously -- I definitely remember a ConcealedRespite on the server, but have no clue what version number it was. In any case, if 2 is similar to the one that was on SV awhile ago the goal is going to be finding places to stick some extra nodes to make this a dual primary, 6 node map.

Im currently working on ONS-Coldsteel, and im takeing a look into ONS-Midworld. I have a few maps that i would love to fix size issues but i cant find an easy way to do just that. Also since im relatively new to this, i lack the movie videos that are in the editers choice. Even though today i went out and purchased it from gamestop. *sigh*

The "Deluxe, Super Extreme, Totally Awesome" DVD version has the videos.

Also, I believe that you can download them off of the 3DBuzz website once you register.

They should be here.

Yes i saw that, there was an entire section of level optimizations from a frames per second perspective that are not on the site. There is >7 gigs of movies, that site doesnt have them all.

OK, lets remember to keep this organized, please start a new thread with your active map. If you have two going at once, that's cool (two threads) but lets limit it to that. This way we can get the proper feedback to the proper place.

If you want some initial feedback before going to RC1, then post a link to the map and describe the changes you are making, or want to make. In this way, we should be able to keep things organized.

Thanks again to everyone for partticipating.

Yeah, you are right. My bad...

The level optimisation directory is 231MB.

Intro is 2MB
Zoning Overview is 26MB
Zoning Practical App is 49MB
Antiportals is 29MB
Antiportals Practical is 75MB
Terrain is 33MB
Fog and Conclusion is 18MB

I don't know if there is anyway that I can send you one of those.. I don't know how much they will compress.
