Hello guys,

it's a lot of fun to be back after many years.
I restarted on Server2 as a WM and leveled to somewhere in the higher 40s. 27.03 suddenly I was marked as an "_impostor" and reset.
Prior to starting the game I changed some FPS setting in the ini file to remove some lag that I had experienced. Other than that, same PC, same SW and I didn't imagine that an ini change would influence the character setting.

Would it be possible to check if I can gain access to the original WM character again?
Gamertag is "newkman" (small caps).
It's not urgent as I started a MM class which is a lot of fun, but I miss the more active playstyle.

Many thanks in advance for your comment.

Kind regards and see you online

Welcome!

There is a Weapons Master, Newkman, who is a level 50. His name has one capital N, the rest lower case. I've got nothing that would explain "suddenly" being labeled as an _Imposter while actually being in the server unless you were lagging horribly due to packet loss or some such. Really just guessing there... However, if you have a different UTGUID and try logging into the server with a name that's already in use, then yes, you'll be tagged as an _Imposter (see next).

I had a look at your RPG data and you currently have an entirely different UTGUID on your Medic than the one for your WM. The only ways that I know of that that can happen is you either installed the game using a different cd-key or you manually edited the Registry.

Hello Karma,

Thanks for checking. I tried both spellings without success. If registry means UT2004.ini then it'll be the cause, I guess.

Is the donation option only for re-activation of characters or can a change of the UTGUID be requested this way as well?

Enjoy the weekend!

No, the Registry I'm referring to is the one that helps to run your operating system for the whole computer. Please use extreme caution if you're ever working in that file as a small mistake made there can cause your computer to cease operating!

As for donating, we would call it a character restoration. We'd remove all the characters associated with the old/bad UTGUID and restore them to a new UTGUID. New characters need to be the same class as their originals (example: Adren Master levels need to go onto another Adren Master) and need to be on the same server as their originals. If you decide to do this, I'll provide further instructions.

I've played around with tickrates and FOV and such many times in the .ini and have never had it change my UTGUID, so I can't offer any further advice on how to avoid that happening again to you. It would be beneficial, if you do discover how this happened, to let us know so we might be better prepared for the next occurence.

Got it - but no, didn't change anything in the windows registry.
Anyway, I have a way forward so the thread can be closed.
I suppose I can create a new character as WM and mention both in the comment field of the donation? If I should be wrong, I'm happy about some further instruction :)

If I should come across any advice for future troubleshooting at a later point, I'll let you know.

Cheers
