Looks like my current system should run UT3 just fine. I wonder what kind of hardware power you need for the "Holy Shit" settings :colors:
UT3 seems to be made for multithreading. I checked on my Quad 6600 and it looks like load is shared evenly. I get to an average of 60% on all 4 cores, while I was doing VCTF. Less on DM.ToxicWaste wrote:Who called it baby! (I was pretty close)

What these specs tell me is that the main game thread is still doing the bulk of the work, and you probably will not get away with a low clocked dual core (i.e. 1.6 or 1.8). And from a client perspective, a quad core is useless unless you are running a bunch of stuff in the background.
Looks like I will be able to get by on my machine for a while.
As for the server...well that's another story altogether.
But now, I am finially getting excited

How are you able to determine how much usage and stress your CPU is under? Are you using a certain program to monitor it and save the results while you're playing?ACY wrote:Whipper my dual is maxed at 100% all the time on this game. I'm sure your single core is screaming. It may run fine whipper but I imagine in the long run in order to get full advantage in matching your going to have to upgrade!
I think that this really will be important..."In Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War for PC, there is a significant gain in having 512MB of video memory rather than 256MB. So, first and foremost, get at least a 512MB card if you can afford it. If you haven’t maxed out your budget, then go for the maximum single-card performance that doesn’t require extreme cooling, e.g. buy an entry-level GeForce 8800 over a GeForce 8600."
As you can read for yourself, if an entry-level 8800 is your thing, skimp the 199-something card and just shell out additional 50 somethings for a 512MB card. In Blighty, 512MB board should cost 149 quids (yes, getting ripped off all over again), so this is the card Tim wholeheartedly reccomends as "at least". However, with several partners coming down the line with 1GB cards, know that UE3 engine will more than welcome more memory. We guess this puts the whole idea by some engineers about "what's the use of 1GB memory with 256-bit interface" to rest. Yes, it is worthawhile. Nuff' said.
I think we are all missing something somehow. There's no way it should be taking 60% of 4 cores.kryphos wrote:UT3 seems to be made for multithreading.
