Thanks Snag, of course, the mac Vent is still only going by the Speedex codex, so I STILL can't use it, but whatever.

See you in game.

Heh! They really should fix that. But I guess any non-Speex codec is encumbered by licensing issues in Mac-land. :banghead:

Totally off-topic.... Have you had any issues playing on Spam Vikings since the DWOnslaught stuff was introduced? I only ask because we had another Mac user that mentioned problems with UT crashing.

Actually, as my name suggests, I play under Gentoo. The mac is just there, and since there is no vent for linux/gentoo, then I put vent on the mac. But it's working fine.

Actually It's not mac's fault.

From what I read on the issue with vent and the GSM codec, It amounts to Microsoft trying to get around a patent owned by philips for the GSM codec. Basically Microsoft liked the codec and re-engineered it so it works differently. The algorithm is the same, However how the way data is organized and streamed is different, making the codec for linux or mac (which exist) broken.

However the issue is only prevalent when going cross-platform. Windows->Windows machines have the same (screwed up and altered) codec, so it just works.

Ventrilo under Linux

Actually Ventrilo is easy to run under Linux using Wine.
But the configuration is brutal because the GUI is hosed -- the primary window grabs your cursor and won't let go.
