There is a whole section of the forums dedicated to this, search google theres a few good sites out there to get you started and check out
http://www.3dbuzz.com
On there are some VTM's (video training manuals) which are probably the best thing to help you learn how to use Unreal ed.

If you have the DVD version of UT2004 the VTM's are included on the second disc (they may be on the CD version too, but IDK cuz I don't have the CD version).
Try here too:
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Mapping_Lessons
And the google search will get you a million more.

If I remember correctly its only the special edition DVD which came with a second disk.
I have the DVD version of the game and only have 1 disk.

Yeah angel mapper is a good site.
And I had the same problem when i signed up to 3dbuzz for some reason. I just sent an email to the people who run the site and they got it sorted for me

Also be sure to check the Unreal Editor Wiki:
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki
Also, you'll need to search for Editor tutorials. Once you understand the basics, once you "get it", it isn't hard to figure out how to do specific things. However, the "getting it" part can be tricky at first. Finding a good tutorial would definitely help.
It's actually possible to chat with Angel Mapper on IRC if you know what server and channel to go to.
