Warfare is bigger, more focused on vehicles, and shares certain characteristics with Assault, and it has some more gameplay tweaks. It's next-gen ONS, basically.

To be honest I dont think its that different from onslaught, but the fact there is now an orb unlinked nodes etc all these change the game and the way it will be played, in essence ons dictated the way the map would be played as you were only offered route a, or route b. (Obviously this could go on for c d or e depending on the amount of nodes) But warefare seems to open this up slightly with the use of the orb and unlinked nodes I think there will be a lot more redirection in the game (dependent on the enemys tactics), also with other parts of the game using the orb to change the environment or activate some thing, its not just a case of push forward taking over one node at a time, you still have one goal but more ways to reach it.
You can look at warfare as ONS 2.0 but I think all the extra possibilitys added in to this game type have evolved into a more war like situation.

I believe my friend Kaeolian is absolutly correct. Warefare involves more than just pusing node to node, the x-factor of the orb and where it is and how it is used will bring a new challenge to the game. Also it will mean more teamwork and cooporation. You no longer want to leave your buddy hanging if he has the orb. You want to transport, protect, cover, ect.. instead of an idiot running off with a bender and having no passengers.

No shame, no dishonor, will run away to fight another day!

Well warfare is being called ONS v2.0. The main addition other then new vehicles is the idea of the orb which on paper is like a redeemer + 5 man link in one. Also Everyone gets a hoverboard which means no more walking, and they can latch onto friendly vehicles to increase speed.
In a word it's going to be pubtastic.

You have been hanging around ST too long. :compress:DW_Hornet wrote:

Yea, I agree with him on his points, He just irritates people to the point even if they may agree with him they'll call his logic flawed. The game is going to probably be really fun in a public setting. However competitively I think the game is going to suffer, there is just to much emphasis placed on gimmick type game play at least from I've seen.zeus wrote:You have been hanging around ST too long. :compress:DW_Hornet wrote:

I'll concede the fact that pub game play at least initially makes the game, However Ideas like the cube of slowness you can drop is just makes you wonder, or the invisible hellbender.
I somewhat agree, but until we have all banged on it for a bit, it will be hard to tell. Most of UT2k4 stock ONS maps suck. EPIC does not think in the way a competitive player does. They are targetting the lowest common denominator.
Theoretically, according to EPIC, it will not be hard to play "classic ONS or AS". So, if the orb and the new vehicles are too crappy, we just remove them. Again, they did not really understand ONS when they first released it and the community edited the stock maps for better play. Plus, I believe that there were some modifications of vehicles in the early patches? Like the tank was much easier to aim with, etc.
Like what was mentioned earlier, this is really ONS 2.0 vs. the huge 64p strategic game they were talking about a year ago (BF). And listening to their reasons, I don't blame the change. UT is a fast paced, blow up in your face type of game.
Though we still have not really seen the Assault like features yet. Someone mentioned something about unleashing a tidal wave or something. So, we will see how it all works out.
It may mean that WF becomes more map knowledgable dependant like AS and DM.

This is pretty much what I think it boils down to.zeus wrote: It may mean that WF becomes more map knowledgable dependant like AS and DM.
That's fine with me, because at its worst ONS is just a series of nodes plopped down in a box or on terrain (Cap Gordon's, etc) and it generally tends to work reasonably well even then. But go look at the invasion server and people are always on the lookout for secrets and things they can use to their advantage -- Something you don't really notice from average/low level players in ONS. Though I've speculated in the past this is because people are just retarded, it's entirely possible that most people don't find the incentives for doing that / playing straight onslaught fun enough, so they tool around in vehicles and play DM and so on.
