It is amazing how EPIC so quickly killed their franchise.

- what they did, could have been a hit, in another time in the future years maybe .. their bigest mistake was to try to make it a part of 'another kind of game' - ...

Demand for UT3 just isn't there.

Probably the biggest problem is alot of computers just simply can't run it. And you're right, it should not have tried to imitate Gears of War. Bad mistake.

IMO, what killed UT3 was UT2003. They threw away their franchise, then when they tried to bring it back to what it should've been with UT3, their original fanbase had almost entirely left.

yeah, i was kinda hoping more people would start playing on the UT3 death warrant server but it never really happened so i just kept playin 2k4 or COD4. so force yourself to start playing UT3 so maybe people can get used to it.

- I bet Epic had the same thing in mind.. ' they will force themselves to play this game' . - I .. really don't think so.

That was Epic's first big mistake. A lot of people who love UT 2004 but didn't play UT99 might not understand and it (and I can understand that), but UT99 players were very unhappy with UT 2003.

That having been said, another large aspect of UT3's failure was its consolization; it's having been designed as a console game and then ported over to the PC, as though PC gaming were an afterthought. The user interface is horrible and at release, the server browser was almost functionless in addition to its being featureless. The server browser has improved some with patches, but it's still below UT99/2004 standards and the user interface is far below UT99/2004 standards. Releasing the game at the same time as several other high profile FPS games with little marketing wasn't a particularly bright idea, either.

The UT3 game play itself is pretty good; it's just everything that surrounds it that's problematic.

Epic has yet to come out and acknowledge that the server browser and user interface were substandard. It would be even better if they would overhaul it in a patch.
