I've been labeled as an impostor

Soooo, I've been trying to play the monster madness things (I'm getting completely slaughtered but it's a good time) and sometimes when I play my characters name is Runner as expected and I have my levels and whatnot (I don't have many but still) and sometimes my name is Runner_Impostor and I don't have any levels and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do about it. Sorry I recognize that this is probably something really obvious like a password or something like that but I just don't know what to do.

Impostor is added to a player's name if they choose a name that someone else has already chosen. This shouldn't happen to the original player unless they are playing from a different install of UT. I believe your player's stats are recorded on the server according to your GUID which is generated from the CDkey of the game. Are you playing on a different computer when you get the impostor added (at a friends house perhaps)? If not it's possible the server uses something else in addition to the GUID such as IP address or MAC address. Wraith is the one who will know these answers for sure, so if he doesn't see this thread sometime soon shoot him an email describing the issue in detail to wraith@clandw.com.

Hi, Runner!

As BrainPan stated...if you are playing from a different install of UT, one with a different cd key, then the game thinks you're an entirely new player who is trying to use a name already in use on the server. When you try to use your name, the server automatically adds the "imposter" tag to differentiate that character from your original.

Also, you must be sure you have typed in your character name exactly as you had it orginally as the server remembers these precisely as written and any variations will cause it to assume that you are making a new character.

Let us know if you have any other questions! :compress:

Case doesn't seem to matter, just spelling. I have forgotten to capitalize my character name a couple of times with no problems.

If you aren't the original player but you still like the name you don't have to change it completely you could just add a ! or . something small to make it unique but that may not be the case :clown:
