Now for something I've only seen once in my UT carrier. I have no idea what other names this guy might go under but he was insane to watch. He didn't whore any one vehicle, he just tore through any opposition that presented itself in a match that was very "I kill you, you kill me ad infinitum" I could have done a little better on the PPH if I hadn't typed as much or stopped to spec him but no one else I've ever seen plays so well so consistently:

Probably the most satisfying moment in ONS for me..... my first ever "comp style" scrim and we beat the (at the time) #1 team in North America..... on ChainsIsle

So don't think there aren't advantages to being a 32p-server player :)

ONS Mixer tournaments 3 & 4 were probably the most fun sequence of games I was involved in. Being on a team called the "Pubstar Sh*tf*cks" gave us an awesome tag & an excuse to invade public servers en-masse wearing them. Plenty of "where in hell did these guys come from?!?!?!!??!11!!?!" reactions for the week mixer 3 lasted

lol @ pubstar shitfucks and pron

Couple of questions for you, was that first match (uma/ussr) TWL? Did you guys practice regularly and have overarching strategies or just spawn kill kill defend etc?

My only expirience with UTComp ons was in the first omni tourney - which sucked ass because the servers kept crashing.

In keeping with this threads spirit I'll add this:

It happened just a few days ago and made me happy in my pants to not completely suck at TAM. My average ping was 36-40~

Yar, most prominent ladder teams tried to maintain regular practices and the limits to strategies a team could employ were determined mostly by the map being played. Unfortunately in the interest of maintaining credibility the main ladders recognized stock maps only and it was a helluva long, whiny process to getting new maps accepted and poor maps removed. So for every "official" map that had a single primary branching out to two or more secondaries (Arctic, Torlan, Crossfire, Severance, Red Pooplet, etc), teams put most of their energy into developing opening strats designed to take down the enemy prime ASAP, then aggressively mobilize at said prime..... the outcome of those games was generally decided in 2-3 minutes, and comebacks were very rare.

Matches on maps like Dawn, Ascendency-LE, Frostbite (and mixer maps like SilvaBeta5, Tropic-32 & Ahebban) had a far greater range of mid-game strategic options and produced some classic games. IMO the optimal competitive environment was provided in Mixers 3 & 4, where multiple primary maps and 10v10 player counts were generally used.

As for myself, video games take priority over, well, nothing........ so I was content to let the more dedicated players play matches and fill in when needed. I'm geared more towards PUG-like games where everyone jumps in vent, take 10 minutes to assign vehicles and basic positions to players (my position is usually "sacrificial lamb"), discuss strats, then just play whilst communicating basic things like node status and where the big threats are (locations of tanks, overwhelming enemy presence, etc). Advanced teamwork is admirable though.... I recall playing T5K on complex maps and constantly having to deal with lightning-fast "mini-teams" of 2-3 players showing up simultaneously at key locations.

That game with uMA was just a scrim, not an official "match". The combo of it being a rare game played on a non-ladder map (and one our 32p-pub lovin' arses were quite familiar with) and being my first comp experience made it that much sweeter. The notions that many players on uMA rarely pubbed, may not have seen this map at all and had superhuman sportsmanship shall be conveniently overlooked. As will the next scrim we had with them on Primeval :tongue5:

USSR did hit #1 on TWL, but t'was at a time when uMA, KoNA, k1 & pure were otherwise occupied

Here's another screenie then...... significance here is that I believe pure originated in ONS, and this was pretty much their A+ line-up. Pope = Nolebeezy and Figment = 8thGradeDropout. For my money, a non-rusty 8th/Figment is/was the best overall ONS player in NA.

For the record, we hadn't played together for awhile before this and no, t'was not the worst shellacking we received from them :cheese:
